Odd Pet DREAM

I dreamt Stan and I took the dogs to some place that had a weird sort of stairwell area that was concrete at the bottom, but had no actual stairs to get to it. It had a bunch of stuff stored in it. Lucifer Sam jumped into it, and I was afraid that he hurt himself because it was about 5 feet deep, but he hadn't. Plato joined him. We let them play in this area while we went off to do other stuff. When we came back, we could only find Plato, not Lucifer Sam. I feared he was still in the well, and that he had hurt himself. When I looked in it, I didn't see him. We looked and looked and finally I went back to the well. I saw him on the ground, not moving. I was afraid he had fallen and broken his neck, but then he started to move as normal and I figured he was just sleeping. Later in the dream there were more dogs. Lucifer Sam had something in his mouth, like a furry toy mouse. He was doing his pug hoarding ritual, grrring and not letting the other dogs have it.

A pretty boring dream except for the fear of our Pug being hurt again. I know why I'm having these dreams, and it's because of what happened 6 years ago to Hieronymus (falling down the stairs). I always say weird animal things happen around Labor Day. 1999 saw a squirrel get into the house and we had to call animal control after I closed it in a cupboard so it wouldn't escape into the rest of the house (it ran into the cupboard by itself). 2000 was Hieronymus's fall and 2001 our cat Natasha died. All on Labor Day. 2002 to present saw nothing happen to us personally (we're always so cautious on that day now), however I suppose this past Labor Day did have its weird animal event when a stingray claimed the life of the Crocodile Hunter.

I'm really happy that all of our pets made it through Labor day without incident. I wonder if my co-worker with chickens lost her hen on labor day - very sad.

There is really a curse on that holiday and I think that it is cosmicly strange that Steve died on that day.

As far as labor day goes I wish do avoid doing anything to celebrate it. I think my own union is riddled with cronyism and favorit pet workers. It is a shame and they are truely worthless as an organization as far as I can see. When I have given them an issue they chose to let me be treated unfairly and persue the issue with the next person who was treated as I was. I think unions or at least the one I'm in hate people with advanced educations - ironicly it takes a degree to move up into any good job doing union work for the union. My union is a real shame....

Hopefuly there are better ones out there, because there is - now more than ever - a need for more unions.

More than anything I'm thankful that all of our pets made it through the dreaded holiday and sorry that the Crocodile Hunter didn't make it.

Maybe its good that you had a dream about our dogs and maybe that, somehow kept them safe.

Unions prefer uneducated people so they can control them. A person with an education is a threat because they are likely to examine an issue from many angles (read: possibly sympathize with management).

I don't know, just my own theory. I've never been part of a union in the work I've done. Just as well as I'd probably not get on with them either. I won't say any more, but I'm sure you know how I feel about them too.

I'm not the least bit bothered by people who don't like unions, even though I think they are important to our economy. I think more unions would improve the quality of life for all of us, however the 'pack' mentality is rather ugly - especialy when it has no real political vision and is just a bunch of cronies going bla bla bla for their own vanity.

When I first started working for the county someone told me that union meetings are basicly "Night of 1000 screams". I tried going to them but this screaming was a reality and mostly about issues that were a waste of time in any ' big picture '....

I would rather spend my evenings with Ann and my dogs, cats plants etc... than hang out with a bunch of people who basicly hate me anyway. It's just as well that union meetings have turned out to be big wasts of time, so I have a good reason not to go to them - gulit free.

The pack mentality is the worst. Of course you don't need unions to have that in the workplace either.

I'm so glad I'm self-employed.

American unions must be very different from european. At least in northern europe the unions has done incredibly much for the workconditions, whether people are industrial workers or academics. As I've read through the news, it's almost impossible to run a decent union in the US, as people who try to organize get fired as troublemakers. But you also have huge gaps between the wages. And I read things like muslims in some states got their wages cutted up to ten percent after 9/11. Would be impossible to do that here.

Theoretically, unions should be a good thing. And there are advantages of having a unionized job, as Stan does, as he has higher wages with health benefits and vacation (provided he can take them), unlike many jobs he'd qualify for (hell, getting a job as he did was better than trying to pursue a stupid university teaching position). Unfortunately, they're pretty corrupt with cronyism, and if they don't like you, as Stan described, if you're not "one of them"--uneducated, smoking, drinking, bowling ya-hey good old boy/crusty old gal type, then they never listen to you and you're ostracized.

Personally, I'd prefer not to have to have unions, that employers would be required to give decent wages and benefits and working conditions, but of course that would mean the government would have to have more control in private business, and of course that would label me a ::gulp:: socialist.

Better that than a neo-con.

Agree. In a perfect world unions wouldn't be neccessary.
