12:20:2002 Entry: "Ann : Could you help me?"

Could you help me?

I just tried customizing the scrollbar colors on the following test documents. Because I'm on a Mac, and this does not work on Mac browsers, I have no way to check them to make sure they look ok. Could you let me know if something seems out of whack? Thanks!

Test documents open to new windows. There is just one page to check for each link, which is a copy of my index page...the link on each of these pages brings you back to the main journal page, so no need to click it, but you might want to mouse over it and pretend to press down to check to see if all the colors match up well with the scrollbar colors.

They all seem to work fine.

They look good to me too!

Thank you, ladies!

I just wish I could see them too!

And I wish I could see them too. They have the default grey IE color to me. What I wonder more about is the writing at the bottom of the pages, are you aware of how much time it takes to read all that!? ;o]

Posted by Nico @ 05:08:2002:06:42 AM CST

LOL Nico, I didn't expect anyone to read all that! It was just filler I put in to make sure there was enough junk to make it scroll. It's generated in my geriatric version of Quark Xpress with the aide of this nifty little Xtension called "Jabberwocky." Much fun can be had with Jabberwocky when bored, or even when just trying to generate filler text.

BTW, the scrollbar thing is just for MSIE 5.5 and higher, Windows. Macs and other browsers won't work.

I have IE 6 but all I can see is the grey default scrollbar :(

Posted by Frost @ 05:08:2002:04:19 PM CST

Hmmm...that's odd Frost...maybe it's JUST IE 5.5 and Microsoft (again, in another case of infinite wisdom) "fixed" it for 6? I don't know...any CSS gurus out there that know?

I just tried again, to be sure, but nothing... You know what's weird? the scrollbar in this form works just right! I'm going to have a look at your CSS as I write.

Posted by Frost @ 05:08:2002:04:37 PM CST

I tried the CSS for page A, it looks like it works for some other page. The external CSS file works just right so probably is the code you wrote in your page that overrides the other...

Posted by Frost @ 05:08:2002:04:52 PM CST

Hmmm...I'm a bit confused...you mean the embedded CSS is overriding something? The embedded css is just a text style, I think.

Does it work on this page at all? I switched it over earlier today.

Posted by Ann @ 05:08:2002:05:10 PM CST

No it doesn't work anywhere but the textarea where I'm writing. I downloaded your CSS file and used for a clear page, so I'm sure it works. My only idea is that there is something overriding it in your HTML.
I'm sorry if I can't explain better. It's quite hard to talk about something this specific not in my own language

Posted by Frost @ 05:08:2002:05:32 PM CST

I'm sorry for taking up so many comments to get it right.
As far as I tried right now on your PageA html the thing that stunts your CSS is assigning a class to BODY. With a class it overrides the scrollbars' characteristics you gave to BODY :/

Posted by Frost @ 05:08:2002:05:44 PM CST

Thanks, Frost, that makes sense. I do have a body class on those test pages. I wonder if I assigned the scrollbar specs to that particular class if it would work...hmmm... I don't have a body class on this page...I wonder why only the comment box shows it.

This is baffling.
