12:20:2003 Entry: "Ann : Succulent"

Succulent

Yesterday Stan bought this plant...he fell in love with it. Today, his stupid wife and even stupider Boston Terrier knocked a couple leaves off of it when said dog was going out side on his leash...leash caught a couple leaves, knocked them off. Just shoot us now. I'm trying to root the leaves in a couple pots with rooting hormone, but don't know if they'll take at all. Succulents are supposed to be able to start plantlets from leaves, but if this is a weird hybrid or something, it might not work. I'll just die if I've damaged the main plant in anyway....you just don't see things like this at greenhouses every day. I still don't know what it is though, other than a succulent. The bumpy leaves remind me of so many things...warty gourds, tongues with bumpy tastebuds, those weird monkeys with pink fleshy frontal lobes, cale, broccoli, cauliflower. It's quite the specimen.

You're not supposed to touch the leaves either, as the greenhouse worker told us. However tempting it is for us, the plant evidentially doesn't like it. Stan says we rescued it from some family with kids who would constantly fondle the leaves. I hope we did, I hope we're giving it a good home despite the clumsiness of certain dogs and females who inhabit it.

It's the plant that I fell in love with at first sight. When I pointed it out to you, Ann you laughed. Not many plants can elicite a strong responce at first sight.

I'm sure the Boston Terrier damage isn't significant, and the plant should recover.
