It was neither black nor fawn, but some combination of the two. I took it to the vet and they said it had a fever. They told me to bring it back in a few days to get its temperature taken again. I thought this was a racket. I did bring it back, I think, but the setting turned into some strange gymnasium. There were a couple people climbing up on two ladders. One ladder was the "standalone" kind, and the other ladder was the kind you lean against a house, and that ladder was leaning against the first ladder. The people were climbing way too high for it to be safe. First, the standalone ladder fell, which oddly left the other ladder suspended in air, the guy on top of it. When he realized his ladder had no support, then it fell. I forgot what happened after that because when scary stuff like that happens, I get transported out of the dream. Another dream involved driving, either somewhere near the Highway 30/Cub Foods/junkyard area in Madison, or possibly East Prospect east of Bath Landscape in Fort Collins. I remember train tracks and low-lying nature areas, with roads going through them. There was someone (unidentified woman) following me very closely because she thought I was driving too slow. I think I was driving and Stan was a passenger which is a bit of a twist (do you feel like a passenger, Stan? :-D). I look in the rear view mirror and see all this smoke coming from in back of me. The car behind me is revving her engine and making it smoke, then suddenly she disappears off a side street, either Riverside Drive (if it was Ft. C.) or some other street if it was Madison (I don't know that area too well still). I was afraid she'd go around town and chase me down somehow. She was a nasty piece of work.
21 Comments Passenger??? No, I feel more like a fan - just listening to music rather that riding along in the band. What was Dave thinking when he said 'passenger' anyway? Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:06:25 PM CST Erm...this is why Dave was never a great songwriter, just a great guitarist. Let's just say he doesn't have a way with words. But of course you have your Roger-haters (there's plenty of them on the web) who think "Roger was rude to respond that way" but I think he was justified, I mean PASSenger is synonomous with PASSive, and he was hardly that. I mean Dave was making it sound like Roger was just another session musician, and Syd too! I don't think Dave was being rude though, just using an poorly constructed acceptance speech. Or maybe he had his wife write it like he did with The Division Bell. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:06:33 PM CST I like that song. Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:06:36 PM CST You're right, Stan, that is the stupidest response in the world. Say it with a Clinton accent, "I love that song!" and it'll be really funny. No, did you know his wife wrote lots of the lyrics in Dehydrated Floyd's last album, The Division Bell? I think we discussed this... That's what really pissed Roger off, using the Floyd's name in vain and all. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:06:39 PM CST Yes, I knew she was writing and I'm wondering why she didn't play something too - but I guess she only wrote. I still don't see this as such a big deal like you and Roger do. The way you put it it's like she kicked him out of the band for writing lyrics which were too sinister and she was going to clean up the band's image by writing some - happy & nice - songs. There is no way to compete with the high level of Roger's writing - so she wrote some things and they were good and in the name of Pink Floyd. I don't think anyone is going to want to compair her work to Rogers. I thought Rogers comment that he couldn't say he felt like a 'passenger' was a very good and honest response. This is the real strange thing about people - is that they hate liers, but when someone like Roger tells the truth they think he is a jerk. Well, this only proves that Roger is more honest than 99% of the world. If people think you, Roger or anyone is a jerk it's most likely because they are being honest. You are right, Dave just isn't that good with words, Oh Well... Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:06:51 PM CST Yes, you are pushing my buttons in the first part of your response. It wasn't just that, on Dehydrated's first album, it was even more filled with other guest musicians/writers (Phil Manzanera, for one--a Roxy link). It should've just been a David Gilmour solo album, which would've made sense, but because of a better name recognition value using the Pink Floyd trademark (hence Roger's ire), that's why Dave did it that way. Rick hardly appeared on that album either, because if what I've read is correct, he didn't even legally *rejoin* the band until the tour they did to promote the album, and I'm not sure about Nick's involvement either, but he probably had more input than Rick as Nick has always been there. Ever wonder why this conversation is under my dream instead of the previous topic whre it would've been more appropriate? I got distracted. I pasted in something I copied from your post and pasted into an ebay customer's invoice. I'm so embarrassed. Don't laugh. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, Dehydrated Floyd. Well, it seems that Roger has made big steps in reconciliation, if anyone seems reluctant now it is Dave. Roger pulled a Bob Dylan for the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction back in '96...he didn't appear due to "illness", (probably felt nauseous having to face the former bandmates he was having issues with at the time) but nonetheless donated a lot of Wall paraphenalia to the Rock Hall...remember, when we were sitting in the cafeteria, there were a bunch of bricks and possibly an inflatable schoolteacher looming over us? Nothing against Dylan, but I can't see him being as generous. I think Dylan did an actual snub of the event, whereas Roger's '96 thing was more of a "I can't bear it." I'm rambling. I think it all makes a wonderful rock and roll story, like something I would've made up. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:07:26 PM CST Real life --- you can't just make that stuff up. I still think Dave was within his rights as an artist to use the Pink Floyd name, but I don't think we are ever going to be on common ground with this one. Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:07:31 PM CST This could cause a rift in our relationship! It was more like "Floyd 'n Friends." Pink was definitely not there. It would've been very funny if Dave actually called the band "Dehydrated Floyd" because then it would've shown a sense of humour about the whole situation. Like something we would've done, you know? Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:07:37 PM CST Fine if were going to part on this matter I'll form a band called "Pink 'n Friends". We'll all be crazy just like me and we won't make any music because we'll be sitting in corners with our little black books of poetry. I think you are right in that it would have been more creative to call themselves something different than 'Pink Floyd'. It's just more evidence that Waterless Floyd is not as creative as the origionals, but it is still not enough evidence to stop them from keeping the origional name. Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:07:44 PM CST No it should be either "Floyd 'n Friends" or "Pink 'n Pals". Aliteration, you know, to keep the Syd spark going, as he was the king of aliteration, effervescing elephants and all. This is getting a bit daft. Gawd, "Pink 'n Pals" sounds like a bad Saturday morning tv show or something. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:07:51 PM CST Pink and Pals? don't they have something to do with "The Buddy Christ"? Is there such a thing as Pink Floyd Dogma? Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:07:57 PM CST Oh that reminds me of an illustration I saw when I used to hang around the Pink Floyd web boards...it was an illustration of Roger Waters as Christ...hilarious as it was, it was actually inspired by this parody: Roger Waters Superstar which is a take off on Jesus Christ Superstar which is even more funny because of the Lloyd-Webber connection. (I hope that link works) Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:08:03 PM CST You're thinking of "Jesus and Pals". What was that from? South Park, maybe? Yeah, I think that's what it was. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:08:04 PM CST Lookie what I found just tonight (I SWEAR I wasn't seeking it out, it just found me...yeah right you say): “ But when the second album came out . . . well, it had got totally Spinal Tap by then.” -Roger Waters Think about it! It's so true! I got the quote from here: Dark Side of the Moon: The Making of the Pink Floyd Masterpiece. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, 2nd paragraph for the full quote. Looks like a good book...hint hint amazon hint. Posted by Flogging a Dead Topic Annie @ 11:28:2005:10:28 PM CST Yes, very Spinal Tap, and it certainly looks like life imatating art or something like that. I think you make the points very clearly in Roger's favor on aesthetic grounds, and there is no way for Waterless Floyd to tip that balance. On leagel or technical grounds Dave and his word loving wife are still free to use the name Pink Floyd. Even if the writing abilities of the wife are much more in the line of - or in the direction of - a sort of Salieri level of aesthetics. This still can be and is creative work belonging to Pink Floyd. Now every time I hear songs from The Division Bell I'll be thinking of Spinal Tap. Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:10:59 PM CST I've always thought that Spinal Tap must've used Pink Floyd as some kind of inspiration, even though Tap is obviously intentionally mediocre. The weird thing is, though is that Tap came out in '83 or so, nearly a decade before Dehydrated's Writing Wife album. The one glaring difference is that with Tap's Nigel Tufnel (think of Roger) and David St. Hubbins (think of David!) they obviously have more affection for eachother than the real-life Floydian versions. And don't you think Derek Smalls was so obviously the Nick Mason of the group? If not, you need to watch that movie again. And their manager, Ian Faith, and Nigel did NOT get along, just IRL with Roger and Steve O'Rourke. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:11:09 PM CST You need to explain these things to me when we watch it again, and I've always thought Floyd was used partly in the Tap. Posted by Stan @ 11:28:2005:11:14 PM CST You can call in sick to work tomorrow and we can watch it. Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:11:16 PM CST Stan is singing "Roger Waters Superstar" to the tunes of "Jesus Christ Superstar." I can't believe he knows the tunes! Posted by Ann @ 11:28:2005:11:17 PM CST Oh wow. I have no clue what you guys are talking about! None at all... Oh well! Creepy dream, though. Posted by Dawn @ 11:29:2005:12:17 PM CST Dawn, we went off on a tangent about Pink Floyd, which we do every so often around here! It was in regard to a comment that was made at the UK Music Hall of Fame awards ceremony. Posted by Ann @ 11:29:2005:01:28 PM CST By Ann @ 11:36 AM CST:12:09:05 ..::Link::.. |
