DREAM: SquirrelRat
I dreamt that Stan and I had a small rodent-like animal, grey, squirrel- or rat-size. It had some sores on its body and one of the sores went clear through to the other side of the animal, leaving a hole in its body. I noticed this and pointed it out to Stan. Then somehow, one of our male pets, which was either Lucifer Sam, Plato or Caligula, or a combination of all three, got ahold of this animal and started mutilating it, but not killing it all the way. I felt so horrible, because in the dream the squirrelrat was a pet too.

I think symbolically the squirrelrat was maybe Persephone and the holes and sores in its body represented her aging (kidneys and thyroid). Another theory is it is just a reminder of the time Stan and I found a *beautiful* large green caterpillar with ornate knobs, like colorful jewelled maces. It was one of those Saturnidae (sp?) kind, a large family (?) of moths that include Cecropia. We kept the moth, fed it, it made a cocoon and eventually hatched into a beautiful moth. We released the moth, and I'll be damned if our cat Natasha didn't specifically find that exact moth to bring back to us. I was so upset, this beautiful creature, destroyed by my cat. What made it worse, is that Stan's parents were visiting at the time, and Stan's dad found a cat with a big moth in its mouth amusing. He just didn't understand how upset we were.

Or maybe the squirrelrat was Caligula, and the sores on its body was the cancer sore he had removed, and what is now his scar and big shaved area that will take a while to grow fur back.
