..::Previous entry: "DREAM: SquirrelRat"::.. ..::Main Index::.. ..::Next entry: "Dinner"::.. 12:16:2005 Entry: "Ann : Stress"StressYesterday seemed to start out all backwards. Shouldn't one start the day to stressful customers, and end it with a peaceful drive through the woods? Yesterday morning started out ok...Stan, on his last Thursday off ever, except for Holidays, shovelled the walks from the previous day's snow, which left me plenty of time to pack up my ebay bead orders, and even receive a jewelry order and pack it up in time to take to the post office (this is a VERY busy time of year for me as far as selling my jewelry, as one can imagine!) Despite the previous day's near-blizzard, the streets were warm and melty, which made driving easy. We took care of postal duties, stopped by Jung's Garden Center to use up five Jung Dollars, ate lunch at 2:30 pm at a Mexican restaurant (what better time?) and then took a drive through the Arboretum. The sky was white and pink and milky grey, and the bare tree limbs were black dendrites reaching toward a sky of chalcedony and agate, just like some of the rings I was wearing. The whole scene was just like dendritic agate and chalcedony, it was so mineral. That's what I like about rocks is that they unintentionally immitate nature scenes. I came home to a disturbed ebay customer, claiming it's taking forever to get her order. Turns out she had me confused with a different seller, and I eventually got an apology. I also came home to another large jewelry order, which is a good thing, but stressful nonetheless as I have to quickly take the items off my website so that someone else doesn't snatch them up during a last minute holiday rush. The ebay customer had me stressed all night. I hadn't even been able to open my mail until 9 pm. In it I found some green calcite beads I had ordered. Beautiful, rectangular stones of green, like spring. I hope it's not too far away, but it's not even officially winter yet.
9 Comments My dad got his college degree in geology, and my grandpa was a professor of geology at MSU his entire career. I think I would need to get some of their old texts to fully understand your descriptions. Posted by greenthumb @ 12:16:2005:01:26 PM CST I did not know that about your dad, greenthumb...wow, our friend Bill's late father had a Geology degree too (I think it was Geology). Sometimes I wish I would've done more as far as studying Geology a little, but I think Mr. Bibbey's 9th grade so-called "earth science" class sort of turned me off anything like that academically. What a joke of a class that was. War stories. Feh. Yet, I digress. Here are some pics of my jewelry, agates and stuff, some of which have that effect. Posted by Ann @ 12:16:2005:01:33 PM CST Although I don't think I learned anything, I did like Mr. Bibbey's stories. (He died a few years back - he was only in his 50s I think.) Dad's degree wasn't obvious, as he never did use it for a job. Like so many college degrees. My motto with jewelry is don't wear anything with more class than you have. So all my earrings come 6/$5 poked onto a piece of cardboard. Did you go to Taco Johns or Taco Bell for lunch? :) I'm partial to Taco Johns because I love their potatoes ole. Posted by greenthumb @ 12:16:2005:03:11 PM CST Mexican restaurant: Neither one of those. They're both way too salty and greasy. This is a local business, Casa de Lara. They had a restaurant on State Street (near campus) and opened a 2nd one near the south end of town. Family-run Mexican restaurants are much better than the chains. Mr. Bibbey: He was only in his 50s? I thought he was in his 50s when I was taking him in the 70s! I could probably appreciate his war stories better now than when I was 14, but he really didn't teach much about the subject, did he? He reminded me of Green Bay's coach in the 1990s, Mike Holmgren, I think his name was (now coaches Seattle?). Not that I care much about football. There was an actor on Seinfeld who played a coach that Jerry and George had in high school who sort of reminded me of Mr. Bibbey too...must be a common coach/high school teacher look. Remember there was a coach in high school...tall, thin...Olander or something (I think)? What on earth did he teach, other than Driver's Ed? It's like they hire these guys to coach, and they don't teach anything, so they find some makework class for them so it appears as if they're earning their keep. Posted by Ann @ 12:16:2005:03:27 PM CST Mr. Bibbey was in his mid-30s when we had him, and probably has been dead for 10 years, so that would have made him in his 50s when he died. I think that common look you are referring to is the way former football players often look, when they're no longer staying in shape. I think John Elway's doing very well. I'm sure it's hard to stop eating multi-thousands of calories a day when you're no longer exercising strenuously. There was a Coach Olander in HS. I never had him as I did not take drivers ed. Fast food is my favorite kind of restaurant food. I like the ambiance, and when I'm done eating I nurse several diet Pepsis and watch the people come and go. Very relaxing. Posted by greenthumb @ 12:16:2005:04:00 PM CST Driving through the snow covered trees was very beautiful. On the information that my mother filled out concerning my biological father she wrote that he was a Geology Grad student. As it turns out he studied physics, but I don't think he was in geology. I would have loved getting a degree in geology, but just like art - i probably wouldn't have found a career in it. Posted by Stan @ 12:16:2005:09:31 PM CST I think most geology grads get jobs in the oil field, which would be a happening field nowdays. Posted by greenthumb @ 12:17:2005:02:05 PM CST I wonder if Danny (Stan's brother-in-law) has a Geology degree then? Stan? So if I had a geology degree I probably wouldn't use it either because the oil industry would not be my choice of field. Maybe Minerology would've been a better thing to study for someone like me. Oh well, it's too late now! Posted by Ann @ 12:17:2005:02:14 PM CST I think Danny is some kind of enginering graduate, and he is a equipment inspector.
