I dreamt that it was a very cold winter morning and I had to take the bus to school (high school? college? grad school?). I decided to wait for the bus with Stan. I asked him for a bus ticket. He was very reluctant to give me one, stating that he doesn't have many left. The bus ticket had torn edges and looked like it was made out of rice paper. We were waiting on a corner that looked like Elizabeth and Stover in Fort Collins. There were a lot of people at the bus stop as well. I saw a bus come, but it was the wrong one. It had a name on it that wasn't a letter or number of the route. Instead it was an abstract, like "reality" or something. I decided that was a chartered tour, so I didn't board it. I don't think I ever got on the bus in the dream.
23 Comments You are so much like Enid in the movie Ghost World. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:20 PM CST It is so weird I had that dream shortly after watching that movie, and especially because of our conversation this evening about existentialism and that movie. Like I told you, I dont' know if the bus actually said "reality" but it definitely was a concept like that as opposd to a number, letter or destination like Oakwood Terrace or whatever. I wonder what it says that I chose not to get on the bus, but keep waiting for the right one to come along, and especially because I figured the bus was a chartered tour! Maybe it was Kramer's Reality Tour! Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:24 PM CST So, do you have some concepts of any piticular "reality" tour you might be waiting for? Maybe, to trust anything that comes with the label "Reality" shouldn't be trusted anyway. After all any reality which would acutally be a real reality would never need to indicate its true identity with any names like "reality" or "Reality". After all anything that is truely itself would never find any need to claim itself - as itself, because it would simply just be - the thing that it really is. Perhas there is something false about a reality which has to prove itself by naming itself "reality" or "Reality", or any other name which might give it existance as any sort of real reality. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:33 PM CST Sort of like "if you see a Buddha on the road, kill him." That bus was defintely not the way to reality, which is a good thing I didn't take it or else maybe I'd never have woken up! But then again, is this Waking Life real? (That was another movie named as existential when I was doing my research today). Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:35 PM CST I love that movie. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:37 PM CST Aaaagh! Another Clintonesque response! I love that President! Is Bob Dole a Nihilist? He does have that dark comedic streak... Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:38 PM CST I know Bob Dole and I remember his campain for the white house, and I'll tell you that a Nihilist is no Bob Dole. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:41 PM CST Dole Bob is what then? Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:42 PM CST A very couragous soldier who's political ambitions eventually showed that the man also had a great sense of humor, as he went on to make certain TV commercials. To bad no one knew he had such a large sense of humor when he was running for president, because if we had seen that side of him he surely would have won the presidency. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:46 PM CST Somehow this just got serious all of a sudden, even though we're discussing a sense of humour. Hmm. :^ Well. So much for that. Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:49 PM CST My emoticon didn't work. I'll try again: :- Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:50 PM CST The straight line that represents a straight face neither smiling or frowning is not showing up on this page, symbolizing to me that my face has no mouth, no voice. Perhaps I should shut up. Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:51 PM CST Come on, Bob has a good sense of humor, and I'm still glad Bill was our president - everything worked out well. I'm out of good material... maybe Bob was a presidentualpotentialist rather than any sort of Nihilist or Existentialist. Posted by Stan @ 12:29:2005:06:57 PM CST A Potentialist, huh? Potentialism...does this come after Postmodernism? Posted by Ann @ 12:29:2005:06:58 PM CST I'm not sure what would be next in the fashions of philosophy. Perhaps it is better to pay attention to what interests us rather than what is all of the new rage for deep thinking. Posted by Stan @ 12:30:2005:05:50 PM CST Well duh. Who do you think I am anyway? Posted by Ann @ 12:30:2005:05:55 PM CST
It's good he takes the bus, it's much safer than driving. And I'm pretty sure Bob Dole is not a nihilist or existentialist. All american politicans are godists and it usually doesn't get along with nihilism or existentialism, all though Kierkegaard was a christian. You have to be christian to be an american citizen, at least that's what George Bush senior said, quoting: "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be Posted by Nico @ 12:30:2005:06:01 PM CST George Sr. really said that? Really? Gee, and I thought he was the more benevolent of the King Georges. No, I was just being silly about Bob Dole with Stan. It has to do with our dead cat Vladimir as toward his later days he'd sound like Bob Dole. But he was a very philosophical cat. Go figure. Posted by Ann @ 12:30:2005:06:09 PM CST I really enjoyed reading Kierkegaard when I was taking religious studies coursed in undergrad at CSU. Isn't Kierkegaard the philosopher who posited the idea that to say "God Exists" falls short of what "God" would truely be, and that it is incorrect to say that God exists? Because; if God exists that the "Power to Exist" is thus greater than the power of "God". Surely no other thing in all of existance could possibly have more power than God. Therefore: it is not possible for "God to Exist" because if "God Existed" then the power to exist would be a power greater than God. Something along this line of ideas - I believe was started by Kierkegaard, or was that someone else? I didn't know George Sr. said atheists shouldn't be considered citizens - that's very wild. Posted by Stan @ 12:31:2005:05:37 PM CST I knew about that comment, does that make me special or anal? I like Stan's God comment. I had a dream the other day that I was God, and with a thought (in present time) I created the universe. Wierd... Philosophy is cool, if not confusing. Happy New Year, btw. Posted by Dawn @ 01:01:2006:05:29 PM CST Yep, cats are philosophical animals, and they sure know the art of relaxing. I think Kierkegaard (and most "representatives" for existentialistic philosophy) separate between "being" and "exist", because existing is something you actively do, it's to constantly become, while being is something you just are, from this God is most likely not an existance as he is not becoming, but is what he is - and now I suddenly realized how difficult it is to write about these things in english ;) Anyway, I actually don't know much about Kierkegaards thoughts about God, I wrote an essay on Kierkegaard in connection to my studies, but it was about his philosophy about time and eternity. Posted by Nico @ 01:02:2006:07:53 AM CST Happy New Year, Dawn and Nico! Posted by Ann @ 01:03:2006:07:12 AM CST Happy new year, Ann & Stan :) Posted by Nico @ 01:03:2006:09:36 AM CST By Ann @ 13:10 AM CST:01:22:05 ..::Link::.. |
