A Couple of DREAMs with no Basis in Reality Whatsoever

I was in a somewhat creepy motel room. It had holograph disco wallpaper, which was actually kind of cool, except for the disco posters that accompanied it. Part of the wall was coming down exposing wiring and strange lighting. It had a faucet, but the water poured out onto a table and not into a sink. The place was being remodelled, and the person who owned the place was my mom, which would actually be kind of cool if there was any semblance of reality about it. My mom was more around my age in the dream.

I was in a sociology class and we were getting our tests back. I received an "A", another completely unrealistic dream because I really struggled through all those -ology classes back in college. Despite the good grade, there were sure a lot of mistakes on my paper. Professor must've graded on a curve. After class, I got on a bike to go home but the handlebars were so close together it was hard to maneouver.

I took sociology at our community college a few years ago. This teacher was an actual professor, not just an instructor, and all we did was follow the book. It was the easiest class ever. Totally basic- highschool was harder- kind of class!

Psychology, on the other hand, was a totally different matter!

Isn't it fun to have off the wall dreams sometimes? I hate the ones that are disturbing...

I love ology classes and wish I had more of them, but I probably would end up with a B most of the time.

It's strange that your mom would be your age, do you think your mom has anything to do with a faucet that runs on to a table?

Posted by Stan @ 01:09:2006:05:12 PM CST

My -ology classes were hard because they involved too much memorization of stuff you'll forget a few weeks after the end of class. That's no way to learn. A lot of learning terms, definitions, etc. I guess sometimes a class sounds interesting at the start, but after you get into it, you realize it's not for you. But one ology I did do well in was Mythology, probably because before I took it I had studied it independently for a few years before I took it in grad school, and I was interested in it. That makes a big difference, when you're authentically interested in something, your retention level is much better. Plus, the 300- level sociology class I took at CSU I was during the time Stan and I were starting to um...hang out with eachother late at night for a lack of a better term. One time we stayed up late and fooled around right before I had a midterm. In the long run, the relationship was more important than the class, really.

"do you think your mom has anything to do with a faucet that runs on to a table"?

Maybe a faucet with no sink is a form of defectiveness, like when you go to your parents house and they are using something in a defective way (like a computer) and you say, "why don't you get a sink for that faucet?" and they say, "oh, we don't really need a sink, we always put bowls under it when we use it" or something like that. Does that make sense?

Posted by Ann @ 01:09:2006:05:24 PM CST

Here's the conversation:

me: But you'd have to keep dumping the bowls out.
mom: That doesn't bother me.
me: But what if the water runs over?
mom: We don't run too much water at a time. Plus, if we got a sink, how would we dump the water out?
me: Mom, a sink has a drain!
mom: But then you'd have to get plumbing attached to it for it to drain.
me: That's the point...
mom: We don't want to bother with that.
me: But you already have plumbing for the incoming water, you just need to get it hooked up to drain into the sewer pipe.
mom: (looking at me confused) But you'd have to get a plumber to do that, don't you?
me: Yes, or Stan could do it for you, he's done this in our house.
mom: Stan could do this?
me: Yes!
mom: I don't know, it's an awful bother, and we really don't mind using the bowl.

I'm sure this must be symbolic for a computer. They're probably confusing to my mom the way indoor plumbing was confusing for people at the turn of the previous century.

Sounds like a real conversation.

Nigel: (confused expression) This one goes to 11.

Posted by Ann @ 01:09:2006:06:59 PM CST

That was the funniest line in the whole movie.

Posted by greenthumb @ 01:12:2006:04:48 PM CST

The whole movie was great! But that line will probably live on forever.

Posted by Ann @ 01:13:2006:11:53 AM CST

oh god, dawn is lost again. what movie?

Posted by Dawn @ 01:13:2006:01:49 PM CST

This is Spinal Tap.

Posted by Ann @ 01:14:2006:04:55 PM CST

And I have still never seen it. do you think netflix has it? any other must see movies to keep up with ann and stan? I have seen fire walk with me, you recomended it a very long time ago...

Posted by Dawn @ 01:19:2006:07:42 PM CST

I've never used netflix, but yeah, I would think they'd have it--it's a pretty popular comedy.

Other must-see movies? Hmmm...There's a big long list, maybe I'll make it a separate entry some time.
