Dilemmas and DREAM

The other day I stumbled onto a site (you know when you discover someone googled something odd to end up at your site, so you check the google search yourself and find a different site that piques your interest, but then ultimately wish you never clicked the link) that's main thesis was "men are better at everything than women." I will not include the link here because, well, I forgot it, and secondly, I found the site vile, not in terms of profanity, but in terms of the general sentiment. Although for the most part I would prefer the company of men to the company of women, and although I agreed on some of the points put forth (for example, why DO women have to have a humungous wedding that breaks bank accounts? why IS that necessary?) by the (obviously testosterone-impaired) author of the site, the whole notion that someone in this day and age, the 21st century, still adheres to concepts that we/our older sisters/mothers/grandmothers (depending on your age range) fought to overcome should annoy the bloody hell out of anyone with a brain.

We are not moving forward, kids.

The problem with dumbf***s like that is when they are confronted with women who do not live up to their pathetic little stereotype of women, she is immediately deemed a lesbian or undateworthy (like I'd want to date any of those potatoheads if I was in the dating pool). So let me get this straight, they don't like super-feminine fluffy incapable shivering violet defective women, yet at the same time they don't like aggressive and strong women either. So what does that leave them? Men. Oh, but no, they're not gay, oh nooooo. They have sex with the women and they socialize with the men. Gosh, gramma and grampaw, that's just like you!

The thing is, there is no double-standard here though. It's equal opportunity opposite-gender bashing. Women (of course, not all women, but many women) are just as bad regarding men. This is why I hate being around large groups of women because it will inevitably turn into a hormonal anti-penile bitch fest to which I cannot relate. I'm thought of as an exception because I can relate to my husband and we're not segregated in the way many other couples segregate eachother, men in front of the TV or computer, women in the kitchen. Inevitably the statement "well, Stan's cool because he's not like that" would come from the lips of said women, he'd gain an "honorary woman" seal of approval. Yet by the very same time being deemed undatable or gay by the very same women because he's "weird" and not like other men (read, not like other mornoic potatoheads).

I just wonder where we, as a society, went wrong. Why can't we look at our skills, abilities and weaknesses in terms of our individualness and not in terms of our gender? At what specific point in time did the clock start turning backward, that young men are now not supporting equality for women, but dominance over them--again? Just like in the so-called "good old days?"

Anyway, enough of that. Maybe I'll write more on the subject later.

I have another problem.

I can't figure out what is Green Rutilated Quartz, Prehnite or Jade. I have a "Green Rutilated Quartz" pendant that looks like "Prehnite". I have a "Jade" pendant that looks like "Prehnite." I have some "Prehnite" beads that look like "Green Rutilated Quartz". And I have some "Prehnite" beads that look like "Jade." Or "Serpentine." I don't know whether to go by what they were named by the vendors (who sometimes seem to know less about stones' Who's Who than I do) or just go by what I suspect it is. Oh well, this is my problem, not society's, unlike the above matter. Fortunately.

I had a dream I was doing mushrooms. I was walking around on the streets on mushrooms. Effect wasn't that intense. Me and my dream companion (ambiguous) were eating them like they were food, but they started to taste bad and I stopped for fear of ingesting too much. It's really weird to dream that you're on drugs because you start to actually feel weird in your sleep.

"It's really weird to dream that you're on drugs because you start to actually feel weird in your sleep."

This I wouldn't know, and I don't want to have that dream, lol!

As for the gender stuff, a person (typically) is smart, but people are stupid. As for "At what specific point in time did the clock start turning backward, that young men are now not supporting equality for women, but dominance over them--again? Just like in the so-called "good old days?"" all I can say is what I remember from sociology (yes, an ology class). And people act in a certain way because they are "socialized" by their society, but fo some, a society is the small town they grew up in, the church they attended or their own neighborhood in the big city they lived in. Then they have limited experiences and are influenced by what they know and see/ hear on tv and radio. But,imo, people who live in many different areas and have many different jobs or an education, tend to have a broader world view. The US is so big that mini societies dominate over our general US society. Does this make sense? I also read in a book that said while women's needs have changed over the years, men's needs have not, so they desire "the good ol' days".

Anecdote: I was reading a book about navy seals to my son, and it said that congress does not allow women to become navy seals. He was mad! He was astounded, shocked, more like it. He told me that women can do the sme things as men and that they can do them just as good. I wanted to kiss him!

Good for your son, Dawn!

What you said re: people are a product of their socialization: Stan grew up in a small town, yet he has always been very egalitarian as far as women's issues. I'm thinking maybe it had to do with the *time* he grew up and I grew up. Women's liberation and equal rights was everywhere, even in small towns, whether they liked it or not. Now, when I receive a telemarketing call, the little girl on the other end doesn't even know what "Ms" is (as opposed to Miss or Mrs.). The world is getting more urban and less rural, so I don't know if it's a case of young men being raised in small rural environments beause then I would think we would be getting more civilized rather than less so (due to the shrinking rural populaton)...does that make sense?

Maybe urbanization does not necessarily equate to a civilized population.

Somehow, the idea of equal treatment for everyone no matter what gender we are has been replaced. I think people are romanticizing the idea - not necessarily the truth - of the 1950s era. The idea that one person (the male) could earn enough money for a whole family somehow became elevated to a spiritual ideal. To many bogus preachers are telling women that they need to stay at home (sit around doing nothing until they become so bored that they lose all ideas of self worth) because it's the christian thing to do.

I fail to see what is wrong with these spiritual fakers.

Everyone needs to find a place in the world and a way to contirbute in the larger social meanings.

Women in our culture are made to feel spiritualy bankrupt if the want to do something more than watching TV till their brains rot.

"I fail to see what is wrong with these spiritual fakers."

You're being sarcastic, right?

Or what?

?!>?

Posted by Ann @ 01:25:2006:08:45 PM CST

The thing is, I don't think this is coming just from right wing promise-keeper types. I think it is becoming mainstream.

OK, I found the url to the site. I am NOT including a link here for obvious reasons.

It is men are better than women dot com, with no spaces between the letters. Read it at your own peril if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Posted by Ann @ 01:25:2006:08:54 PM CST

I didn't get my thoughts together very well.

I fail to see what is wrong with these spiritual fakers... I mean as people I can't understand why they are so messed up.

It's as if they have a disease and I don't know what the illness is.

If I knew what their problem is then I wouldn't fail to see what was wrong with them.... I would then know the name of their disease and thus, know what is wrong with them.

Posted by Stan @ 01:25:2006:08:55 PM CST

OK, I think I follow now.

Explanation:

"or their own neighborhood in the big city they lived in"

Some urban people are limited also because they never get out of their neighborhood- everything they need is right there. People who travel and get educations tend to be more open minded. Then there are those who
1. do all of those and are still worthless
2. never do but have been blessed by some miracle and are smarter than the rest of the population. These are rare gems. Treasure them, lol.

I am very proud of Austin! People with PDD or Autism see the world differently, usually because they have failed to socialize! So it is a blessing and a curse!

Last time I started mentioning how MT is more equal rights than NY, but I thought I was being long winded and deleted it. Because of the necessity of needing women to do "men's work" along side the men, it became not only acceptable but expected. Equal rights? What for, they already have it. In NY I was treated like a girl and not allowed to act like a boy (but i don't get on with girls and childhood sucked. MT changed all that and boys hung out with me and I was just one of the guys.) and was treated all foo foo. Women don't get treated special here, opening doors and crap. They are not better, they are the same.

Maybe equal rights is failing because women don't want to be equal, they want to be better.

I'll stop now.

Posted by Dawn @ 01:26:2006:08:04 AM CST

Actually, I like having doors opened for me...but only when I'm carrying stuff and the other person has a hand free. I'd do the same for someone else. Othertimes when a strange man does it for me I feel weird. Then I'm expected to say "Thank you" and I really don't want to because it's not like I asked a favor, you know?

I think some women want to be treated like silly girls. They like to have their little girl parties and hen fests where they talk bad about men. God, slumber parties sucked. Not slumber parties with a few close friends, but the ones where practically the whole female population of the class was invited. About 7 years ago, I was invited to an adult one and I refused. It's amazing how some women can travel across the country to be with a bunch of women they've only met online to be part of something like that. Unbelievable.

Well, I think I had the cheapest wedding ever. Infact it didn't cost ANYTHING. And we all know how that went out. (In case we have forgotten: I got divorced shortly after ;D)

Posted by Nico @ 01:26:2006:02:14 PM CST

Nico, you're not supporting my case. But just think, aren't you *glad* you didn't spend anything on your wedding? ;-)

My wedding didn't cost anything either. The reception cost less than $1000. I'm not going to go on how my parents bitched about how MUCH it cost. They should be glad I didn't want a "typical" wedding. They have no clue.

Posted by Ann @ 01:26:2006:02:19 PM CST

I got a brand new wedding dress for 50 bucks! We spent very little, we knew a gal that made wedding cakes- it was huge and hugely inexpensive! I am sure we spent no more than $500 on the whole thing...

"It's amazing how some women can travel across the country to be with a bunch of women they've only met online to be part of something like that. Unbelievable."

I did not know that!

Posted by Dawn @ 01:26:2006:04:16 PM CST

We just got married at the Justice of the Peace so we didn't spend anything for the wedding. I didn't wear anything special. Our reception was about a month later, and also doubled as an art exhibit for the both of us. We had it catered by some artistic caterers in Denver. Very delicious food. I'm craving salmon eggs and straw mushrooms hors d'oeuvres right now. And chocolate raspberry cake.
