Death, Pain and DREAM
Very strange and sad set of circumstances. We of course cancelled our Route 66 trip to Arizona that was planned for this spring because of Stan getting settled with the new job situation. Before that happened, we had planned to visit a cactus greenhouse in Arizona. Now we find out that the owner of the greenhouse (who was close to our age) has died and the business is for sale. We'd gotten a lot of cacti (mail order) from there in the past. It's just very sad. I guess I got spoiled last year taking two trips, one in the fall and one in the spring. Now my body is expecting a spring trip and it's not going to get it. I think I will go slightly mad. My knee is hurting when I exercise and I suspect it's from an old war injury, the Hell Foods fall. Bastards. I wonder if I had decided to go to a doctor (I have no idea what I would've done about insurance being out of state and all) instead of my SIL's if she would've held it against me. Leave it to Ann to ruin it for everyone. Maybe I at least could've sued Hell Foods. Dammit. A couple nights ago I dreamt I was travelling with a dream companion (ambiguous). Sometimes I have this weird sensation that I'm looking at the land from above as I travel, like a map. I was looking at the land around Ogallala, Nebraska. We were going camping there, but it was near Fort Collins, you know, dream logic. I get to the camping spot and realize I didn't bring supplies like contact lens cases, so we go back "home", wherever that is. The camping spot then sort of turned into Baraboo, WI, around Devil's lake, but in a residential neighbohood. It was also like that beautiful spot that exists only in dreams where the land is boggy and it turns into a pond and the weather turns from cold to warm.

I guess we'll have to take a weekend tirp to Iowa to have a spring vacation. It is very sad that Arid Lands is no longer operating and even sader that the woman who ran it died of cancer. It was really interesting - what you said, Ann - (when I told you about the situation). You said you wondered if the cancer might have been caused by insecticides. This thought really hit me and I've been wondering about it a lot. Insecticides are very dangerous, and so are art supplies and many other things I've been around. Cancer is also very hard to understand and happens for a lot of reasons. However, I am glad I'm going in an organic gardening direction with my cacti.

Yee haw, Iowa, wow, so much fun. I can hardly wait. Notice my use of punctuation. No exclamation points here. Harvey's Greenhouse I guess would be a reasonable substitution for Arid Lands, considering they get some of their stock from there, don't they? I really want to go to Canada again...Thunder Bay Amethyst mines. It's been nearly 14 years, Stan.

A drive to Iowa and a circle tour of its great lake next to Canada would be nice. Umm... I imagine that Iowa and Canada could be 2 trips instead of one.
