XX Olympics
I really love watching the Olympics, Winter, Summer, it doesn't matter. Sometimes the opening ceremonies are a bit over the top with the floor show with children dressed as gawdy snowbunnies popping out of oddly constructed art objects, but this time the performance in Turin was pleasant. However one thing that bugged me...what the hell was it with the mostly Americann disco music during the Parade of Nations? All the bad hits from high school and college prerecorded for your listening unenjoyment. I mean this is Italy, folks. Italy. At least they did have a little bit of Rossini during the ceremony, but still. It really pains me to think of the possibility that The Village People has become retro chic in the land that brought us so many great Classical and Operatic composers. I would've even settled for some unbeknownst-to-me Italian contemporary pop music, but KC and the Sunshine Band? 'the hell?

I just thought what the perfect solution would've been: music from Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii! No, seriously, this is why: -They must've wanted something Anglo by their choice of mostly American bands, although I also heard The Eurythmics in the mix. OK, Pink Floyd is not American, but VERY Anglo, very English. -They wanted something retro from the 70s. OK, maybe this would've been rather *early* 70s, but 70s nonetheless (OK, so some of the songs were written in the 60s, but the film was filmed in '71). -Because it's POMPEII!!!!! solving the need for somethng Italian. Yes, Pink Floyd would've been a perfect choice for anything once again.

Even some pop music songs by Italian groups would have seemed to fit better than USA disco... I really would have expected some Italian classical, but Pink Floyd at Pompeii would have been great.

There were some ice skaters/dancers in 2002 that danced to Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I only very vaguely remember that, do you Stan? Dawn, Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii.

I hate sports so I guess I don't like the olympics. I can stand curling and figure scating though. Yes. I'm weird. Guess I would expect The Village people to be played in other parades than the olympics ;)

I'm not a big sports person either, Nico, but I do love watching the Olympics. I love watching curling! Makes me wish I could've learned how to play it when I was younger. Should've been taught as part of those PE classes I took in high school, like Archery and Rec Sports, which in actuality translated to: A few weeks or Archery (fun!) and the rest spent indoors playing Volleyball (painful). And snowboarding looks fun too, but not something to try at this time in my life! Plus, I love watching the snowboard dudes.
