I don't know, for some reason, I find this a bit sad and...sacrilegous? I mean, it looks A LOT like him, but I can't quite understand why it saddens me nonetheless. Didn't just a few years ago I bemoan the fact that they came out with action figures for The Wall and I wanted actual Pink Floyd action figures (circa Live at Pompeii, of course, not sure if I would want the Live 8 version, although they've aged better than most)? Maybe because it is a really good likeness of him, that it's spooky. Maybe it's just because it's cashing in on his death or something. I don't know. ---- I sell Widgets, while Stan sells Schmoos. According to Wikipedia, "In economics a 'widget' is any unspecified material good which is a tangible thing produced through labor (extracted, refined, manufactured, or assembled) from a finite material resource set, in contrast to a 'Shmoo' which is a tangible thing/being that reproduces itself and is captured or bred as an economic activity (the original Shmoo reproduces without requiring any material sustenance.)" ---- All the above information was found on the way to find information about completely unrelated other things. I love getting lost on the web.
20 Comments Wow! That is very lifelike! I am amazed. I think everything surrounding him is sad. just thinking of him is sad. he had such an impact and was gone so fast! I think proceeds should go to a charity, not line the pockets of... courtney? I really don't like her that much. Posted by Dawn @ 03:16:2006:03:15 PM CST Ew...I hope it doesn't go to HER. But she probably would've had to sell away some rights to his image or something...not sure how it works, but wouldn't as the heir to his estate she would have that power? All the more reason not to get it. At first I thought C was just insane (after his death) because she lost her husband to suicide, I mean, *I* would be insane if that happened to me, erratic, not functioning normally...I'd probably have to be institutionalized myself. Initially (12 years ago) I really sympathized with her. But her behavior didn't stop. She kept acting more and more erratic....and I don't think it was just the drugs (although they didn't help). Back in 2002 Stan and I watched a movie "Kurt and Courtney" and it gave us a good indication that perhaps...it wasn't a suicide. Courtney even had asked some guy (who later got hit by a train!) if he could knock off her husband. Very suspicious circumstances. I wouldn't trust her further than I could projectile vomit. Anyway, this time of year is sort close to the anniversary of his death and it always leaves me with a strange feeling. April, especially, is a very weird month. Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:03:34 PM CST Action figure of a person who died tragicly seems at least to be in "bad taste". Schmoos. I love this work - Thank you Posted by Stan @ 03:16:2006:05:57 PM CST Stan, I also saw a John Lennon action figure, and that's just as bad, if not worse, than a KC action figure, here. Some of those action figures are a bit odd, I mean, "talking presidents" action figure? Jane Austen action figure? I pity the poor child getting those for a birthday present. Although I think a Sigmund Freud action figure would be hilarious, especialy if it came with a couch. Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:02 PM CST Actually, I would just like to know *what* the talking presidents action figures say. Does Clinton say, "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is?" does Nixon say "I am not a crook?" Inquiring minds want to know. (click here) Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:05 PM CST I think the action figure of John is probably a violation of one of the 10 commandments. I can't remember which one, but it's as bad as murder and stealing. Posted by Stan @ 03:16:2006:06:13 PM CST LOL! "Thou shalt not make sacrilegious action figures of Beatles" I think our Yellow Submarine action figures are Kosher though, because they are the cartoon versions. I certainly don't want to break any of the commandments of Rock and Roll. Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:17 PM CST OK, so if I lusted in my heart (talking president reference there) for Pink Floyd action figures, does that break a commandment, like coveting thy neighbor's Floyd or something? Are we surreal yet? Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:27 PM CST I think you may have sinned aginst the flying pig, and may you find forgiveness on the wing. Do you really want these action figures??? or are you just looking at them until they are overcome by the uneasy feeling that they are being watched? Posted by Stan @ 03:16:2006:06:38 PM CST From the page of the Bill Clinton talking president action figure (which looks more like the lovechild of Clinton and JFK): "Sculpted likeness with hand-tailored period correct clothing, complete with lined suits and hand double windsor knotted ties, accessories and an adjustable doll stand." Lined suits! LOL! When you ask if I really want these action figures, to which ones are you referring? Pink Floyd action figures do not exist. It's just wishful thinking. However characters from The Wall DO exist (based on the Gerald Scarfe cartoons). I think a butt-faced "worm your honor" would work well perched by the courthouse cafe cash register, but that's my warped sense of humour. Do you mean the Dead Rockstar action figures? No, that's sacrilege! Do you mean the talking president action figures? Ewwww!!!!! However the Sigmund Freud action figure would be a lot of fun if it was bigger (he's only 5 inches!), not to sound Freudian or anything. And if you paint his hair orange, he could double as a certain art prof we used to have! Look at him! Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:43 PM CST Just thinking about art professor talking action figures... "However, on the other hand, from this standpoint..." Ahh, all such innocent little peculiarities from the mouths of babes compared to the demonic spewings from graduate school. Posted by Ann @ 03:16:2006:06:58 PM CST "Sigmund Freud action figure" That's funny. But if it doesn't come with a couch I don't want it. That guy down the street Posted by Dawn @ 03:18:2006:09:22 AM CST The Sigmund Freud action figure, according to the site, "comes with a very phallic cigar." But no couch. Bummer. It would also be a bonus if it came with his mother. Heh. As far as real people action figures, I did see one there that was a "crazy cat lady". I had a grandmother like that. Posted by Ann @ 03:18:2006:09:29 AM CST the crazy cat lady is great! How can a cigar be anything but phallic? Posted by Dawn @ 03:18:2006:11:40 AM CST OMG! I have to have the Jesus action figure! (He died tragically too, so is that also sacriligous?) I'll put him right next to my Moses that I have to get too! Oh wait, no! I must must must have the Spike dressed as Billy Idol action figure (billy idol got his look from spike. um, have to be a buffy fan...) drusilla is so lifelike. How do they do that? too bad they don't have a normal looking buffy and spike. Must be out. i don't think I would pay $40 tho. It would be fun! I could set up my own little buffy play and take pictures, and write my own story! I am like a kid at christmas! ;D Posted by Dawn @ 03:18:2006:11:50 AM CST Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I wonder if the Bill Clinton talking president comes with a cigar too. Or maybe that's the talking presidential groupie action figure set featuring Monica Lewinsky. Posted by Ann @ 03:18:2006:01:02 PM CST Crazy Cat lady would be cool for the little kitties. 6 of them. Dawn, LOOK!!!! Captain Jack Sparrow Action Figure! Posted by Ann @ 03:18:2006:01:06 PM CST Oh my god! I want it! I need to make a wish list! Remember when we were all talking about art and stupid collectables? I changed my mind! I want him. It would be like having him in the house all to myself! Oooo, he is 18" tall.... ("I'm Cap'n Jack Sparrow" "But you have heard of me"- it talks, but what does it say?) *sigh* Posted by Dawn @ 03:18:2006:10:40 PM CST What is it with americans and action figures? It suck. All though it could be cool to see a Sartre action figure. Posted by Nikolas @ 03:19:2006:04:38 AM CST I don't know, Nico, I suspect it has more to do with capitalism than anything (if you don't make it, they wont buy it), although I have a hard time seeing anyone getting rich off the Jane Austen action figure... Sartre action figure would be good. I would like action figures of famous artists constructed in the style of that artist. I'd like a Van Gogh with a removable ear.
