ILLNESS

Friday, January 21, 2005

Everything I see online lately pisses me off.

First of all, I'm trying to find some current prices on metal leaf. I'm met with obstacles of outdated websites of leaf suppliers that offer no online ordering, lame-as-hell sites that take forever to load with no information, poor design, or that simply do not exist. I'm not talking about the small-time craft suppliers that sell 6 sheets of leaf for $10. I want wholesale. Nada. The company I used to order from in the 90s wants to fax the info to me. They want me to fax them a product list request on my letterhead. Can we say GET OUT OF THE 80'S ALREADY! I hate the fax culture because it seems that those who use faxes and only faxes are so STUCK. They cannot go digital, they are clueless about websites and email and online commerce, but by the same token they think they're too good for the old tried and true snail mail method. Well, those are my methods. Faxes are dead, man. You have a printed catalog that you don't want to snail mail? Get a website and make it a pdf. Fax is shit.

So I'm trying various websites domain names just to see if they work and if they might happen to lead me to something, and I come across silverleaf dot com, in hopes that maybe I'll find a secret metal leaf supplier. No, I'm not providing a link. I'm met with a cactus. Well, that's nice. But then I read the site. It's a private golf club community in the south west. OK. Then a little flash slide show starts to load. And I am sickened. They DARE use a cactus image on their site, yet look what they have done to the Arizona countryside...they have raped it with their non-native and inappropriate-for-a-desert green grass. The pictures are so bizarre...beautiful Arizona desert with Saguaros, and in the middle of it, an unnatural green carpet dimpled with fake blue pools. Sickening.

I better stop surfing for a while.

Oh, and one more thing. My sitemeter has a stupid Circuit City banner ad on it that says "Playing Pink on a Pink Floyd Computer?"* Screw you, Circuit City, you've just quadrupled my reasons to NEVER EVER set foot in your snooty nerdstore again.

*I had to think about that for a while, but I think it means "are you playing contemporary (crap) music on an outdated computer system?" Which is really riduculous because if you think about it, didn't Pink Floyd have some of the best soundsystems around for their concerts? And who even hears about Pink anymore anyway? Whearas Pink Floyd is timeless. Some shorn head 22 year old that wears his pants below his butt probably devised that ad campaign.

I better stop before my blood pressure goes through the roof.

Renauguration

Tuesday I bought an exercise bike (Cheap! New! $100!!! What a deal!). Tuesday night, I had a dream that the pedals felt weird, and I looked down and saw that they were facing the wrong way (right facing left, left facing right). I was mad that Stan had assembled it that way. The funny thing is that IRL, Stan really did do that to his own bike.

Since I haven't ridden a bicycle since 1998 (before we moved and I sold my bike--I never bought a new one...too hazardous to ride it to get anywhere in in the city, no where to store it here, etc.), my leg muscles HURT.

OK, so there's these protestors today at the re-nauguration, and not that I am not in alignment with their political sentiments or anything, but how on earth can all these people afford to go to Washington to stand out in the cold just to turn their backs on Dubya? Not that I'd want to see Dubya, mind you, but I can not see him from the privacy and warm comfort of my own home just by not watching TV or at least watching something like Animal Planet or something benign that doesn't show news.

I guess it is fortunate that the past 4 years of Dubyanomics have been good enough that it can afford those that disagree with him the luxury of protesting him. And the irony is that so many people are so opposed to *celebrities* voicing their opinion on politics, but hell, I'd rather have a celebrity lend their voice to a cause because at least it's transparent. You know they're a celebrity. You know they're wealthy. Not like some unknown protestor that is supposedly representing the downtrodden and disenfranchised, but because of their fortune in life has the freedom and finances to take a vacation to DC to show their discontent. I have to work every single day, and if I sacrifice days when I'm not working, you better believe it is for a vacation out west that I will LOVE, not for something I hate.

Me, I just won't watch or listen the damn thing on the media.
