This is seriously making me sick.
The man shot to death Friday in London is not associated with the terror bombings. I did not have a good feeling about this when I first heard of it. I understand the whole "if you don't shoot to kill, he might detonate the device." But can't you shoot to disable? People are saying "but who wears a heavy winter coat in the middle of summer unless they are hiding something?" I'll tell you who: mentally disabled people. Maybe I'm just more perceptive than most, or maybe Madison has more mentally challenged people than most cities (supposedly, we have a lot of mental health care facilities here per capita). But I see it all the time. Drive downtown near State Street, hell, drive anywhere in the city. You'll see a whole slew of people inappropriately dressed, weatherwise. Coats in the summer, sleeveless dresses in the winter. Sometimes even the college students, who supposedly aren't mentally disabled, are even partaking in this odd style. So the London police shot an innocent man who was probably just out of it and wasn't perceptive as far as how his body felt. That's just swell. I hope other people are as outraged at this as I am, but judging from the reaction on the news this morning, I have my doubts.
