Corpse and Article

Here's the article I was telling you about, Stan: It all comes down to privitization.

Off the topic of New Orleans and the failure and incompetence of our public officials, here's a corpse for you.

What was Bush Thinking?

I'm surprised that so many people keep asking questions like 'What was Bush thinking' when this whole Katrina thing was going down. Bush had to be think the same thing he's always been thinking and the same thing he must be thinking many times a day, so what's the big mystery here????

Bush was thinking 'Look Mommy I'm President'!

Hey George...

...I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is your proctologist found your head. The bad news is it can't be removed.

Why is there so much incompetency?

They used to complain about the "me" generation and how self-centered that was. The "me" generation then became the "you" generation, as in "you can do it!" You have the power, you can make your dreams come true; anything you want to be, you can be it, ad nauseum. People then began to believe it. They believed they could do anything if they put their mind to it.

I'm sorry, but that's just not true. Not everyone is a Renaissance Man, and I'm sure even so-called
"Renaissance Men" have their inadequacies. Maybe they could invent contraptions and paint and write, but maybe they had bad relationships with lovers. Maybe they were poor fathers. Maybe they couldn't ride horses well. Maybe their cooking stank. Maybe they had phobias.

Not everyone can do everything well. We have our weaknesses and strengths, and everyone's are different. Too many people don't know their limits, but they're well-schooled in bullshitting their way through it.

Stan and I have a name for this person, called Terry Mattheson. Terry (purposely gender-neutral) is pretty inadequate and average at everything, but Terry is an expert bullshitter, and can blow smoke quite well to get any high paying job Terry sets Terry's mind to. But when it comes to actual performance, Terry is a failure. Those of us who know we have specialized areas of expertise, yet also know we would be a poor choice for a certain position, those of us who know our limits, would never dream of bullshitting our way through a job interview or a college application. We're, well, honest. And our honesty, our admission of strengths and weakneses, is not what those in power want to hear. They want blown smoke, even if that smoke is hiding the truth.

This administration, er, excuse me, regime, is full of Terry Matthesons.

More Thoughts on the Disaster

Here's an article that makes me very sad. Loss of simple homes makes me sad, even more sad than the loss of monumental architecture. It's ironic, just a little less than a year ago I was starting to explore online historical architecture of New Orleans. Several years ago, Stan and I discussed taking a trip to New Orleans some day. It was on the backburner, some day, when we could afford it. Now we won't get to. It's all so sad.

I have a conspiracy theory. Remember one of the issues that Shrub ran on in 2000 was less government handouts, and more private charity. Perhaps this major f-up by FEMA was on purpose, to show that government programs are awkward bureaucracies that inevitably fail, whereas private charities are good. Witness all the positive press Red Cross and Salvation Army are getting. Listen to all the pleas from Shrub asking private citizens to give to charity. This is part of the Neo-Con-Artists' plan to further Libertarianize and de-Socialize America.

DREAMs of my former lives

I dreamt I was still working at "Pinko's." I can't remember exactly what I was doing, but some counter worker came up to me and asked me if I could find the floppy disk (remember those?) that contained a customer's file with some brochure on it because she wanted some revisions. I didn't know where anything was, and the counter worker said that if we couldn't find her file, because it has been a long time, perhaps we could redo her brochure? I thought for a minute and then wondered if we were even supposed to be doing brochures anymore due to some weird rules put in place by our series of transient managers like Evil Drunken Bert or Cokehead Mike. I then said something like "I can't believe I've been working here for 10 years."

I have no idea where I got the 10 years number. Had I stayed working for "Pinko's," the 10 years would make the year in the dream 1995. If I was still working for "Pinko's," then I'd have been working for them for 20 years.

There was also something in the dream about me starting college or grad school and moving to a new city, but I was all alone, without Stan.

I had a dream a few nights ago that I forgot to write down. It had something in it with "Depressions" and the Production Manager was being sarcastic and said to me, "thank you for calling in to let us know you wouldn't be coming." Well, no, I didn't call in because I didn't work there. But in the dream, I think I said, "but I DID call in." And whoever took the message didn't tell those in charge. I think that happened once somewhere, I called in sick and could only reach a coworker, and the higherups were never informed that I had called in sick, so naturally that reflects bad on me when in fact it was their problem that the coworker never informed them or that they couldn't be bothered to take my call.

Damn, I hate former job dreams. I think they're worse than those school anxiety dreams where you haven't been to class for several weeks and there's a test, and you figure maybe if you just don't go to class at all, they'll drop you from the roster and you'll never be academically penalized because they'll think it's just a clerical mistake that you were signed up in the first place, but you're absolutely dreading to see your grade report at the end of the semester anyway.

Come to think of it, I think I had one of those dreams last night too.
