Thursday, November 10, 2005Cat Day Morning, Afternoon and EveningLast night, Caligula sat with me before I went to bed. He looked up at me with love eyes and did that cute cat thing that he does--turns his head and rolls over while reaching up to me with his paws. He wanted pets. I pet him and told him how much I love him and said he'd be getting his tumor removed. I couldn't sleep at all last night. Stan put him in his carrier in the morning before he fed the dogs, as pre-op cats can't have anything to eat in the morning. He was very fiesty and tried really hard to get out of the carrier. He didn't understand why he could't get anything to eat...he was so hungry! Stan put a towel over the carrier to calm him down. As we left the house, We left the door to the back room open so that Persephone cold get food if she wanted. As far as I knew, Persephone was in the living room or the part of the kitchen that was not near the back room. I did not see her sneak out of the house. We dropped Caligula off at the vet's. When we returned home, I was expecting to see Persephone in the back room eating food, but she wasn't there. I went into the living room, no Persephone. I went upstairs, no Persephone. The feeling hit me again...we lost her again. I called her and she didn't come. I went outside and called and called. Could she have slipped out undetected...again? How can this be happening to us...again, and on the day our other cat is having a tumor removed? At this point, Stan, who had called in sick to work yesterday because he was sick, decided he'd better call in sick again, even though he felt better. Too much stress all at once, one cat in surgery and the other having disappeared. I feared we will be spending the entire day hunting down Persephone outside. At this point I'm talking to Stan about something as far as what to do about the missing Persephone, and then in the hallway, from out of nowhere, emerges a little grey cat, acting as if nothing was wrong. "Oh, there she is," I said. She'd been hiding in a corner by a heat register, out of the way where it's hard to see her. That was one relief, but we got a call around 10 am from the vets. Caligula had a fever again! This was disconcerting because he had been on antibiotics since the first time we aborted the surgery due to fever. Stan really wanted to go ahead with the surgery, but they did some blood tests to see if there was something else causing him to have a fever. Scary words like Leukemia, Kidney Disease and Bone Marrow Disease entered the picture. I was a basketcase all morning and into the afternoon, waiting on a phonecall. They called around 2 pm. Bloodwork was normal, teeth cleaned, jaw x-rays done--looked normal, tumor surgery completed. We figure he was just probably stressed from being put in his carrier, and the stress caused the fever. We picked him up tonight (and got to see the CUTEST Boston Terrier puppy in the waiting room...major dog lust here), and he's now hunting for food, still feeling cheated from this morning, a little groggy from anaesthesia and with a big scar on his side. Both Stan's half-brothers and half-sister were there, as well as Stan's Biomom's Husband (SBH) (who is no relation to Stan and doesn't even "know" about him, supposedly) was there. Now here's the weird part: in the dream I'm wondering what will happen when SBH sees Stan's half brothers...would he wonder who they are and what they are doing there? That's what's so weird about dream logic; instead of wondering about what he will think about Stan and who HE is, I'm worried about Stan's half brothers, even though they're SBH's own sons! Another odd part of the dream is that I'm amongst all these people, and Stan is nowhere to be found. I later find him in a bedroom in bed because he's sick. I tell him he has to get out there and socialize because I'm dying out there. Then we all start walking somewhere and I see his half-sister is holding hand with some man who seems familiar to me (but only in dream logic). He is about 5'7" with dark hair and olive skin and seems very much like a serious graduate school professor's pet type. Later in the dream there's a bunch of us sitting in shallow water (possibly in the ocean? Except it is warm) at night, looking up at the sky. There are odd objects in the sky like brightly colored helicopters. They look like toys. I'm sitting next to some guy (not a Stan relative) who seems interested in me. I'm itching my foot which happens to be on top of a backpack or belongings of his (which is also under water). He takes it as a sign and starts to touch me. I pull away. It was a tad disturbing. In another part of the dream, I'm watching a bright blue hummingbird fly into a garage. There's another bird there, like a budgie, and possibly some other animals that are fascinated by the birds. I can't really explain this because it was so odd, but one of the other animals (and I don't know what it was...a chicken, maybe? A dog?) jumps up on a ledge where the budgie and hummingbird are and starts to "court" them by strutting around. Then there was another bird that was chicken-like with sparse white feathers that reminded me of a kind of feathery aloe or hawarthia plant that I've seen.
