Friday, November 26, 2004Thank goodness for overturned beer trucks!Colorado Rock Slide. This is some weird stuff! No one was hurt, because the highway was already closed because of an overturned beer truck accident. I mean, how fortunate is that? Play the video (the top one is informative...the bottom one is just junky footage of highway workers) and see what a MAJOR disaster this could've been if there was traffic on the highway. Unbelievable...what a mess! Stan and I were on this interestate just about a month ago and each time I travel it I look up at the mountains and think it would be so easy for rocks to just come down, and even if you saw it coming, you really would have no out. Cliffs come right off the shoulder. The canyon is so steep that there's no room for a 4-lane...they have to double-decker the highway here, which is sort of neat visually, anyway. And there's one exit for some lake that reads something like "Exit (some number) does not return to wastbound I-70" which means if you go to the lake, you have to go back to eastbound I-70, then find another exit that'll take you back to westbound (or maybe it's vice-a-versa...I forgot). Stan and I were just joking on our drive this year that there's no way to get back once you go to the lake...like it's sort of the end of the world, and whoever takes the lake exit is then doomed there forever. Yes, it's a weird part of the world. Glenwood Springs does have seismic activity...I wonder if that was at play at all? Actually, I'm trying to think of an actor to play Dubya, that actually resembles Dubya, but it escapes me, (insert your own joke about acting chimps here) but I do think Jason Alexander would make a great Cheney, just from a physical resemblance standpoint. Later, I decide also to order some "lemon chrysoprase" beads, even though I don't have anything to go with them. They were chartreuse and cool looking. Later still I order some "peridot jasper" beads, which bear an uncanny resemblance to the lemon chrysoprase beads. Recently, I bought a "lemon jade" (which is probably serpentine) pendant which bears an uncanny resemblance to both the jasper and chrysoprase beads. This past Saturday, I attend a local gem and mineral show and there are some beads which look like the lemon chrysoprase, the peridot jasper and the lemon jade. I ask the man at the booth what they are and he said "new jade," which I hear is also serpentine. I ask him if it is also known as lemon chrysoprase, but he didn't know. Today I receive in the mail a lemon chrysoprase pendant, which not only looks like the beads, but also looks similar to a jade pendant I'd purchased a while ago that they called "Canadian Jade." Now I've seen Canadian jade in pictures, and it really doesn't look like that pendant, but I do also have another pendant called "Canadian Jade" which is completely bizarre looking and also resembles some Zebra jasper beads I have, but the weird thing is is that I've seen Canadian jade sold which looks like a pendant that I have that was called "Rainforest Jasper" which is also known as Rhyolite, except it doesn't look like Rhyolite at all, in fact Rhyolite reminds me a lot of some greenish brown turquoise I've seen, but what's weirder still is that there's this turquoise called "yellow turquoise" which looks a lot like peridot jasper and lemon chrysoprase. Confused? So am I. Posted by Ann on 11/22/04@01:35 PM CST ..::Link::..Whisper or Scream?By Ann @ 09:35 AM CST:11:26:04 ..::Link::..Whisper or Scream? |
