ILLNESS

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

I just have one thing to say, and then I'm gone.

Capitalism is fine for private businesses.

But if anyone is reading this that believes in privatization of government-run institutions, get the hell out of this journal.

Adios.

Job DREAM

I had somehow gotten a job in a large building. All the floors were well-polished hardwood, with some interesting walkways and stairways. It was a huge building, like a very classy mall (oxymoron?) or hotel, and I was getting lost. I was given a sheet of paper with some vague information on it; I had to take that information and process it somehow, but I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it. I think Stan might have been working there too, but I can't remember. It was possibly him who told me to take it to the office and have the people there help me with it. So that is what I did. The people in the office were all women talking about their nails and children and other inane topics. When I asked them for help, I felt I was being such a big burden to them as I was actually trying to do some work while they had their gab fest. They showed me some information photocopied onto green paper of what had been done previously with the data I had. I told them that it would be best if I transcribe it into a computer and make digital files out of it. They were a bit surprised, like "no one's ever done that before, gee, what an interesting idea, but it seems like a lot of work." I still had no idea what to do with this information, or what on earth my purpose was at this job, but I think I did get started on the project.

OK, Stan, here it is:

Dine on You Famous Fatass

I thought it was "Dine on You Lazy Fatass" because lazy rhymes with crazy, but I was wrong. This is actually a hilarious song parody. I know there is a gazillion on that site, but I cannot vouch for the quality of the others as I don't have time to read them. And unlike the Roger Waters Superstar, I can actually sing along to this one! (You were hilarious the other night...I can't believe you remember the tunes to that musical!)

That being said, I think Dave has slimmed up quite a bit. At Live 8 and the UK Music show he looked slimmer than he did in the earlier parts of the decade.

Holy Crap!

Take a look at the cover of the latest issue of Newsweek with the topic "Anorexia". I swear that is me 30+ years ago, excepet with brown eyes and darker hair.

I didn't have anorexia, I swear I didn't. It's just that my parent's meals weren't that appetizing.

DREAM: Pugs, ladders and smokin' cars

I had a small puppy, I think it was a pug. It was neither black nor fawn, but some combination of the two. I took it to the vet and they said it had a fever. They told me to bring it back in a few days to get its temperature taken again. I thought this was a racket. I did bring it back, I think, but the setting turned into some strange gymnasium. There were a couple people climbing up on two ladders. One ladder was the "standalone" kind, and the other ladder was the kind you lean against a house, and that ladder was leaning against the first ladder. The people were climbing way too high for it to be safe. First, the standalone ladder fell, which oddly left the other ladder suspended in air, the guy on top of it. When he realized his ladder had no support, then it fell. I forgot what happened after that because when scary stuff like that happens, I get transported out of the dream. Another dream involved driving, either somewhere near the Highway 30/Cub Foods/junkyard area in Madison, or possibly East Prospect east of Bath Landscape in Fort Collins. I remember train tracks and low-lying nature areas, with roads going through them. There was someone (unidentified woman) following me very closely because she thought I was driving too slow. I think I was driving and Stan was a passenger which is a bit of a twist (do you feel like a passenger, Stan? :-D). I look in the rear view mirror and see all this smoke coming from in back of me. The car behind me is revving her engine and making it smoke, then suddenly she disappears off a side street, either Riverside Drive (if it was Ft. C.) or some other street if it was Madison (I don't know that area too well still). I was afraid she'd go around town and chase me down somehow. She was a nasty piece of work.

UK Music Hall of Fame

I was pondering composing a journal entry that involved a chicken and Thanksgiving. However the subject is a depressing one. Maybe some day I will write about it, but I don't think I can do it at this stage in my life. I can't even laugh at it yet. I can't even laugh about things that it reminds me of, like cardboard backgammon games (unless you are Stan, you must be wondering, "what does chicken, thanksiving, and cardboard backgammon games have to do with one another?") Instead, I will try to think about good things. Backgammon reminds me of a time in my life around the beginning of college, when I learned it. Around that time I was listening to The Who and The Kinks big time, and well, that's what I watched on TV last night, and will try to rewatch and record at a better DVD speed tonight: The 2005 UK Music Hall of Fame. Of course it goes without saying, the primary purpose of my viewing was Pink Floyd's induction, but it was great seeing my other old faves that were inducted too. New Order/Joy Division was supposed to be inducted as well, but for some reason VH1 cut that one out? And rumour has it that Bob Dylan actually snubbed the event, refusing to even appear by on screen (he was even in England at the time). Not sure what to think of that. And you had the big three of the night...The (remainder of the) Who, The Kinks, and Pink Floyd, I mean, what can you follow that up with? Black Sabbath and Ozzie Osbourne? WTF? The only thing I can think of is that they placed them at the end for some sort of comic relief ending, what with Ozzie mooning the audience That was the only thing that was a little odd to me, other than that it was a really good awards show, and despite Ozzie proving he's still the prince of darkness (or just a dottering old fool), it was a very tasteful and mature show, unlike others I've seen. But unlike the US, with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland (saw it in 2002 on our trip out east), I guess Britain doesn't have an actual physical venue. Not that I'd ever be able to see it...

I wonder of Syd Barrett even knew? Does he get one of those sculpture award things? Would it remind him of bad things in his life, like Chickens on Thanksgiving remind me of bad things?

Jewelry DREAM

I was at a bead store (not any of the ones I've been to) looking around. An older woman behind the counter asked me if she could help me find something. I told her I was looking for stone beads. She showed me some white beads that looked like they were made out of bone or ceramic, with darker areas carved into them, clearly not stone. I said they looked like bone, and she said they were in fact stone, that they were tsavorite. (After I woke up, I knew they were clearly not green garnets) The woman behind the counter had grey hair and looked somewhat familiar, but I didn't know where I knew her from. She was wearing a loose fitting blouse that showed her cleavage and I could tell her breasts were all wrinkly, and it freaked me out because I worried I would end up looking like that. I also dreamt I was working with some nice silver headpins, that later morphed into brass headpins and then again morphed into large, ugly brass safety pins. I was wondering how on earth I could sell these ugly things on eBay, let alone incorporate them into my own jewelry designs.
