Saturday, December 24, 2005DREAM at Pat's PlaceStan and I were visiting our friend Pat. We were sitting and talking to her in her dining room, but we were sort of taking a tour of her new place, which was different from all the other places she's lived in. We put our coats in her bedroom, and it looked like she had a nice king-size bed. She mentions that she doesn't know what she's going to do with the middle bedroom because of the pole in it. Sure enough, there was a 3-foot brass pole sticking out about several feet from a back corner. The middle bedroom was dark, with 70s green and red tones. There was a third bedroom toward the front of the house which I think she was keeping some kittens or children in. They would stare at me like they somewhat recognized me. Then it seemed like the place suddenly got overrun with children, some which seemed familiar, like they were Stan's half-Sister-in-Law's kids--at least they seemed familiar in the dream. Then the actual house seemed familiar, as it had a very similar layout to it as a house I dreamt about once before (in that dream, it was a house that Stan and I were looking to buy). We tell Pat that that the house was familiar, and she said it was some apartment complex where she lived before (that is made up for the dream, except for a small 1-story motel-like apartment building, I can only remember Pat living in houses). Because of the placement of bedrooms (bedrooms on two sides of the house with the living area in the center, it wouldn't even have worked as an apartment, but that's dream logic. Because there are too many kids in the house, I go outside. The outside was like our apartment on Mulberry (Bohler's Hole). Somehow my pets were there and I was playing with Plato and a cat. At least it was a Boston, however he seemed younger, smaller, and more black, sort of like a cute litle Boston we met at a Pug Play Date once. The cat was ambiguous, as it was black and white, similar to my parents old cats of decades ago, but with short hair and more black. The cat and dog were playing with eachother, the cat even play-attacking the dog sometimes over a toy. It was very cute, but I was afraid they would run out into the street. I was trying to get back into Pat's place. I kept trying to tell people the name of my pets, but I got hung up on the cat's name. I could not for the life of me remember the cat's name. I felt like I had Alzheimer's. (Probably because it wasn't an actual pet I had, therefore I didn't name it) This really bothered me in the dream that I couldn't remember the name of my own pet. As I was trying to get in the door, there was a small green kitten that looked like a toy frog that was trying to get outside. I was blocking it with my foot. I was walking around the outside of a house that was sort of a funky Frank Lloyd Wrong modern style and under the eaves were windows--not vertical windows, but literally horizontal windows under the eaves. On the inside of what I think was the same house, the windows were a ledge up high toward the ceiling that let in light from below (since they were under the eves) if that makes sense. I was inside a very strange rustic cabin/motel with dim yellow lighting. I had just gotten back from an art show. I think our old friend Kay who we haven't heard from for ages was in the art show, but she had been complaining about something, like they omitted her name from something. I think Bill was in the cabin, and so was Stan. I told them that the art show went well, except Kay was having some bad luck with it. I was with some person (I have no idea who) who wanted to introduce me to his/her family, because they wanted to show me off because all his/her family knew were ugly people (supposedly I was much younger and thinner in this dream). I was wearing a bright rose pink dress (totally un-me) and my hair was longer. Except for the rather showy colour of the dress, it looked like something Mary Ellen Walton would wear. In fact, there was something Appalachia about this whole dream segment. I'm walking with this other person up to his/her family's home (trailer?) which is very unkept and small. We get inside and the family is sitting around the kitchen. They all stare at me with awe because I'm supposedly so pretty (well, prettier than they are at least). The father, who didn't seem to be that much older than my current age, said something like "Well, this is what we like" or something to that effect, but I can't remember the exact words. Then he grabs me and says "come sit on my lap!" and I sit at the outermost edge of his knee. It was a most uncomfortable feeling. Eeeewwwwwww. Two Different Ones.I had another dream where I was sitting with Lucifer Sam and he seemed very simian, like a chimp. I was making funny faces at him, sticking my tongue out at him, and he started playing with my lip and tongue. He was putting his arms around me too, then it started to freak me out because he was becoming rather intimate, and it's one thing to snuggle with a dog who perceives you as this oddly upright godlike master, but another thing to have a somewhat upright ape snuggle with you as he perceives you more as an equal, and I didn't want that. So I put him on the floor. I also had a strange dream that Bush was being interviewed and he said that they were going to start giving out toys for people who vote. I was just rolling my eyes, thinking it was typical for a child president to come up with something like that. Posted by Ann on 12/20/05@10:48 AM CST ..::Link::..2 Screamers.Monday, December 19, 2005DREAM with surprising political revelationI dreamt that Stan and I took a trip out east to see his biomom. We were at some loading dock, which looked more like an entrance to a theatre. We were standing in line about to board a ferry, when I saw Stan's mom sitting at a desk taking tickets or something. I went over to say hello to her. I can't say she was overjoyed to see us; it was more like a "oh, there you are" sort of response. Later, we were at her house, but it looked identical to my parent's house. For some strange reason, Stan told me that he voted for Bush in 2000. (Actually, if anyone voted for Bush, it was me because I voted for him by proxy by voting for Nader, however that was in the more innocent years when people like myself and Michael Moore actually thought Gore would win anyway and wanted to make a pro-third party statement, and since changed our voting habits and voted for Kerry in 2004) I was SOOOOOOO mad that Stan voted for Bush, and I started to chase him around the house probably to pound on him or something. He had a silly grin on his face, because he liked seeing me mad. He ran out the front door, and I flipped the lock on him so he couldn't get back in. Maybe Stan was just saying that to please his biomom. Posted by Ann on 12/19/05@10:09 AM CST ..::Link::..15 Screamers. My Bad. Genes. Bad, Bad GenesI'm really out of the loop as far as local arts go. I used to be much more involved in the community, having shows, trying to get shows, etc. A few years ago, I decided it's just not worth it, not worth the stress, it's not worth the disappointment of the constantly-disappearing-gallery syndrome. I have my art, graphic, fonts, jewelry and use the internet as my venue, not local spaces that are always at the mercy of a landlord, and that keeps me plenty busy. However I still subscribe to a local arts mailing list, sort of a leftover thing from 2002. Often, it's a source of vast intrigue and amusement--case in point: Evidentally someone was recently hired at the university as a director of an art event. This person is the daughter of some other important local art higher up, as well as granddaughter of a late well-known local art icon. One of the persons on the mailing list brought this to the attention of the listserve community as a topic of discussion. And it is still getting discussed. But someone actually had the nerve to say this regarding the newly-hired art director: "She has good genes." I am serious! (And it wasn't said in sarcasm either...the writer was serious.) OK, so genetics is a qualification for getting hired!? Where does that leave those of us with parents who have absolutely no connection to our vocations? Nowhere, that's where it leaves us. It's bad enough that they couldn't give us any guideance in our careers, but do our "genetics" have to curse us also? But Nepotism and Cronyism is just the surface. What is really scary about the statement of this person having "good genes" is the implication of genetic superiority. Because neither of my parents were artists, nor were any of my ancestors, does that mean I have bad genes? Maybe I am genetically-inferior, artistic-wise. Maybe the UW's blackshirts will break down my door, ban me from participating in anything artistic, and put me in a concentration camp where I'll never be able to breed (not that I want to) to pass on my bad genes. Not to play into Stan's paranoia or anything.
