04:21:2001 Entry: "It's another fine mess you've gotten us into, Stanley"

It's another fine mess you've gotten us into, Stanley

Well poo. Although Stan and I don't celebrate Christmas, our parents do, so since they do, we feel obliged to exchange some small gifts amongst ourselves or else we'd feel a bit odd, I mean we *ARE* the most important people in eachothers' lives, right? The other day I ordered some CDs and a video for Stan from Amazon. I was worried that they might not get here in time for the holiday because one took a rather long time to ship. Then that mortgage fiasco happened, and the other night we put holds on all our credit card companies and requested the ones we actively use to issue us new numbers. I had forgotten about my Amazon order. I naturally assumed since I made it over a week ago that they've already charged my card, right? Well, this morning I got a message in my email that my card is denying them payment. D'oh! Well, I guess I won't have to worry about not getting them in time for the holiday...now I KNOW I won't get them in time for the holiday. I probably won't even receive my new card number for a couple of days. Not that it matters...sometimes Stan and I don't even open our presents until he gets a day off, and he does work on the holiday. He has New Year's day off though...Sometimes a parental unit would call us either on Christmas or shortly after and ask us if we've opened our presents yet and when we've replied "no" they're in total disbelief. (They're still remembering when we were kids and couldn't wait...it's hard for them to adapt to the fact that we're now more curmudgeonly than they are).

Geez, if I was a sentimental Christmassy sort, I'd absolutely be devastated without being able to celebrate Christmas ON THAT DAY...the day baby Jesus was born! Guess it's good I'm who I am...someone else just wouldn't be able to hack it.

Actually, I think it's rather funny...if Stan wouldn't have taken up those crooks on their first cold call to him, he'd have Brian Eno, David Bowie, The Beatles and the movie Pi for Xmas. Oh well...
