Maybe it's easier to place text etc. in a rectangle and make it look alright, you need to be creative to fit stuff into a square, squares look better though, maybe because squares are very rare on the net as well as elsewhere so when you meet a square you get surprised and happy and exhited all at the same time.
I think it's a fine idea.
