Grumblings

I want to write about something that's just been bugging me lately. Ann's Disclaimer: It absolutely, positively has nothing whatsoever to do with anything blog, journal, webpage or internet.

There is a nearly virtually zero possibility that anyone involved would read it, despite the fact that I have given out all my major "business" URLs to these people. Of course, when you want someone to visit your webpage, that gives them incentive not to, if you know what I mean. But anyway, I suggested something to this group of people to ease in the facilitation of such and so. THOSE WHO SPOKE UP, all agreed it was a good idea. If someone HAD A PROBLEM with it, why didn't they speak up? Now I'm getting word 2nd hand that they don't like my idea because it inconveniences THEM...not because it's a bad idea, but it's inconvenient for them (but wait! it would only inconvenience them SOME TIMES...not all the time). Well, the other previous option left some people out completely (and I wasn't even one of them...I just wanted it to be fair). At least my idea allowed for an equal distribution of inconveniences!

Bah. Ya try and be diplomatic...ya try to be fair...and someone has to whine because they'll be left out some times (like they're the only one that matters...no one else does, no, nobody left out previously mattered. Hmm-mm.)

You know, there's just some things I shouldn't get involved with. I keep giving things a second chance. You'd think I'd learn. I should just stay home and watch movies and not get involved. I know I'd get more done that way. I should also know better than to ever trust people and concepts from the land of those who never smile.

I don't know what exactly you talk about, but I would like to know, cause it seems rather complicated and has been bothering you.

Ann, I am only getting a feeling of what you are experiencing, and the frustration is real. The unfortunate matter of the fact is that in a group, it is often easier to have someone else do the brunt of the work while everyone gains benefits. It is also easier to be agreeable to everything as a good idea so you a) can be liked still and b) do not have to personally commit to doing anything and c) can always change your mind - because the group offers such a protection, while an individual agreement (one on one) makes the other party accountable for their actions and words.

Hi Ann, I have no idea what any of this is about but it brings back faint echoes to me of Kipper's Gallery. That experience was a good indication of the futility of trying to do anything in groups. Other projects since then have only confirmed my opinion. That's why now I only like to do things where I'm the Supreme Dictator of the project.

Oh Pat, if you only knew...in comparison, Kippers was a model of single goal-oriented artistic efficiency...and remember Art Walkabout? (vacant buildings...olde towne...spring '89...entire artist community participating?) Oh what heaven. Those were the days.
