Candy-Coated Clowns
As heard on NPR this morning, you can vote for a new M&M color from the pool of contenders, Pink, Purple and Aqua. Is it just me, or is purple so totally under-represented as a color? I mean, wasn't purple the last color to be a charm in Lucky Charms? It's a secondary color, it has just as many rights as orange and green. Purple should be a shoe-in. They already have red, why do they need pink? And aqua? Come on, it's a tertiary color...tertiary colors get no rights until all primary and secondary colors have gotten their chances. And since blue was the last one inducted, don't you think aqua should wait a while? Leave it to the green/aqua/blue end of the spectrum...you give them an inch and they want a mile. Isn't it enough that bluish greens are totally over-represent in web colors due to the fact that blue and green are primary colors of light...now it wants its own M&M in the name of Aqua. Heck, if Aqua gets it, I DEMAND they give the next color to Chartreuse. I dare them.

Hm... I was all ready to go with Aqua because it might make some people rip their hair out ("is this green? is this blue? is this blue green? green blue? arrrgh!") However, now that you mentioned chartreuse, I vote for the big C.

I'm voting for purple too! FAO Schwartz has EVERY color of M&M, even black. I'm not sure how or why, but they have them. (FAO Schweets actually, a section inside FAO Schwartz). :op

Oooh black! (says the old goth)...I was thinking that coulda beena contenda...
Actually, if I were to do candy, I'd do them all in tertiary colors (like this blog)...tangerine, apricot, chartreuse, turquoise [or aqua], violet, magenta... and totally skip the primary and secondary colors altogether. They're just soooo overused. But sinced they started the primary/secondary color thing, they really should finish it with purple. It's only fair. And what about those yellow ochre colored M&Ms. What's up with THAT color? Ew. At least the brown ones look like chocolate. But I wouldn't refuse any color in my dressing room if I were a rockstar.
On the other hand, maybe I would. I'd request sushi...to hell with the candy.
Hey, you know a really funny color to do would be grey. It would go over really well with the corporate world.
Aw heck, why not just do the gamut of the spectrum? Why hold back? Come on Mars Co., show us your palette!

I'm sitting here admiring your purple page wearing purple jeans and a purple top - I think I'll vote for the purple ;)

I'm sitting here in a purple dress.. alright, it's a lie. Anyway, purple is the only acceptable color next to black. Everyone knows that. I thought your page was sort of blue?

You're not sitting there in purple dress, Nick? Too bad, I was hoping you'd turn on your Nickcam. :-D
That reminds me of my dream...gotta post that.
Actually my page is only purple by default It can be any color you want it to be. Just remember to Chameleonify.

I don't have a purple dress, only a black one, but I can tell you I'm very sexy in it ;-)
The chameleonify thing doesn't work in the fu*k*i*ng Opera browser.

Hmm...I got the script at A List Apart. Wonder if Zeldman knows about that.

LOL ... when I saw the title I thought I was going to hear someting about the movie Blue Velvet. Now I've got that song in my head. Purple for me too ... I'm a purple partisan anyway ... wines and lavendars are my faves .. but logically speaking ... yes, you're right .. purple is up for bat.

Re: Blue Velvet's Candy Coated Clown: one of the best, most bizarre musical sequences in any movie, ever! Sometimes Stan and I will start going Frank Booth on eachother and quote stuff like "In dreams I walk with you" in our best Dennis Hopper impression.
See, even non-dream posts of mine reference dreams. Heh.

Ewww! I love the CHAMELEONify I vote for red there, though for the M&M I think purple is a shoe in. You know Mars has done all the market research already and are just letting us vote so we'll run out and eat more chocolate without messing up our hands!

Zeldman probably don't know that. He also list Opera on the webstandars page, but it doesn't work with a lot of scripts, like dhtml and applets. Today I'm here with IE 6 though, will see if the colors change now, if not we must assume it's something wrong with me.

It works so it's nothing wrong with me ;o)

Well for cryin' out loud, how can you vote for a color unless you know if the M&M is plain or peanut? These are two totally different concepts in color, you know. Jeez.
I ain't voting for no damned color till I know what's up with this.
