More weird stuff about me, and why I'm so screwed up. (I feel this will be an ongoing thing)
I never had the chicken pox.
I never went to kindergarten.
At eight years old I was terrified to death to ask my mom to buy me a Slinky.
I have several multi-colored plastic Slinkies now.
I never had one of those magic ovens that make plastic creepy crawlies when I was young.
I have one now and make art with the crawlies.
I lived in a motel for a few weeks in Colorado when I was 10. My mom tried to homeschool me there.
In 7th grade I was the best math student.
I never took math beyond 10th grade geometry.
I can't stand math now and screw up my checkbook all the time.
I tend to ramble tangentally.
Really?
OK, so there was this woman, "Jen" in college with Stan and I back in the 80s. She used to be really cool, or so I perceived her to be at that time. She had a daughter and was into some of the music I was. She was 29 but looked and acted a lot younger (I was in my very early 20s). She just seemed really hip. She was also an alcoholic. Then she straightened out...got into AA, dropped the teenage guy she was living with in exchange for a MATURE man (read...one making MONEY). In one of our senior years in college (yeah, I went for 5 years...I had to work, and so did Stan), Stan and I went to see a double feature of "A Clockwork Orange" and "Singin' in the Rain" (someone who worked at the campus theatre had a sense of humour). We were sitting there before "Singin'" and saw Jen, her daughter and Daddy Moneybags there. Now keep in mind, she perceived us as archgoth hardcore artiste types. We called her name and said "hi" to her. She asked us what we were doing there. (duh?) We said we were there to see the movie. (duh?) "But 'Singin' in the Rain,' you guys?!?" she asked in disbelief. Like hardcore art goth punks (or so she perceived us as) can only see certain kinds of movies, and "Singin' in the Rain" isn't on the list. WTF?!?
I often tend to use the English spelling of words rather than the American spelling (humour vs. humor).
I like doing a Cockney accent in public just for the hell of it and seeing people's reaction.
I never had a lunchbox with tv characters on it. My lunchboxes were plain, or I used paper bags.
My mom made me recycle the paper bags.
Sometimes my mom would give me an apple in the lunch.
I couldn't eat the apples because I never had an appetite and sometimes threw them away, whole.
I feel bad about that.

Just the fact that you remember that much of your childhood says something good about it. It may have been different than most, but that's probably what made you an artistic genius! :o)

No Kindergarten? Darn! You never got to sit in a circle on the hard tile floor and listen to stories!
Or maybe you did! *grin*
So, where did you go to college? or is that in your profile somewhere :))
Posted by Leann @ 03/04/2002 06:49 PM CST
Ok, the college info is in your profile. *silly me for even asking* I was at UW-Madison while you were at Colorado State. Same number of years too :))

Hell, I just found out I'm not mature.
If you are screwed up you are a screwhead in a positive way =o)
I didn't go to kindergarten either, just for two days, I was thrown out.
What is a Slinky?

Maria, I don't know...I think my childhood was pretty awful and deprived on a certain level. I'd never want to wish a childhood on anyone, which is why I'm not having kids (one of the reasons, anyway).
Leann, which college/department were you in? What did you think of the UW? My mom went there for 2 years (she spent the first two at the extension in Racine) and she liked it. I heard great things about it. Then I came here. Heh.
Tina...no, you didn't!!! I just pulled mine out of storage from where it's been for a few years and I'm going to have to get another because the plastic oven is melting. :-D I think my goop is breaking down too...or maybe I'm not baking them properly (as I seem to have lost the instructions!) because it's really hard to get them out of the molds now. Off to Toys 'R Us...or is that on a boycott list somewhere? ;-D Hmmm...I seem to not have the creepy crawler paintings in my online gallery. I guess a digital photoshoot is in order.
Nico, since when are you not mature? Hogwash. And you were thrown out of kindergarten?! You upstart! :-D I was ALMOST thrown out of art school several times, but never actually thrown out of anything except cliques (both childhood and [cough] a certain one on the internet that shall be nameless but many of you know what it is) Here's Slinky!

Thanks Leann and Ann for showing me the Slinky, wow, I had a Slinky, even when I was 25 and I'm a screwhead anyway ;o)
I guess I stopped being mature the day I stopped making much money ;o)
I don't know what I did wrong in kindergarten, but I was banned from there, I was also thrown out from the orchestra in 3rd grade.
Yes, I know which internetsweetheart you're talking about ;o)

Ann,
I graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Special Education.
and...
I've got creepy crawlers stuck on my windows as I write! My niece and nephew got the new creepy crawlers machines for Xmas. I pulled out my old molds from when I was a kid (remember creeple people?) and we've been having a blast!

I threw away apples when I was younger too...I feel sorry for it too.

A: Mozart, DaVinci, Ann, Prince
Q: Name four one-named artistic geniuses.
You're too talented to be insane... the proper term is "eccentric".
Now *I'M* fucking nuts!!!!! :0)

Yes I did! Someday I'll post a picture of that black hole my(now 17 year old) son lives in and you'll see why!

Yes, "eccentric" is not only proper--it's perfect!

I didnīt go to kindergarten either. I tried but I didnīt like the boys there and my brother always had to beat them up and...well, all that trouble wasnīt worth it. ;0)
I was terrified to ask my mom to buy me anything. I wonder why. The worst reaction could have been a "no". But I owned a slinky! I bought it all by myself! Ha! lol

i knew it...you're a weirdo! and that's why i like you...;)
archgoth...lmao! Hey, it takes a person like that to want to watch movies like that...what was up with that other lady????
i LOVE those creepy crawler ovens....we uhm...kinda blew ours up...didn't mean too! i guess that's what happens when you try to use it for 10 hrs in a row....and believe me, we have the wriggly things to prove it! ;)

I threw away apples in school, too, and have felt guilty about it! They were blah pale Red Delicious apples, but still. At the time, it was "cool" not to eat all your lunch. *rolling eyes*
Posted by Amber @ 03/07/2002 10:48 PM CST
Wow, I'm amazed to hear that I wasn't the only person that threw away apples! Poor apples.
