04:21:2002 Entry: "I am in shock!!!!"
I am in shock!!!!
This past Sunday, Stan and I attended the Artful Women juried show that I was in (self-juried, one piece per woman). It was at the UW Hospital's Skylight Gallery and quite stuffy and hot, as you know how hospitals are. They were going to have awards later, both "official" awards given by the committee as well as People's Choice Award. Stan kidded me, "Do you want me to vote for your piece for People's Choice?" "No, don't bother, you know how I hate that stuff," I told him. We ate some food, but didn't stick around too long. We had taken cameras to photograph my piece as I heard rumours that it might sell and foolish me hadn't documented it previously, but it was too crowded so we decided to come back later in the week when there were fewer people.
I had a sort of a bad night last night and didn't get much sleep. I had just gotten off the phone with Stan around 1 pm today to ask him if he could pick up some slide duplications of mine on the way home. As I hung up the phone, it rang again immediately. Still groggy from trying to catch up on some sleep, the woman on the other end was the chair of the Artful Women committee, asking if I was going to be home in the next ten minutes. I said I would be, and wondered what on earth could be going on.
She delivered me a bouquet of flowers (Azaeleas?) and said I had won Best of Show!!!
Now you know that I don't seek out awards. I will continue to enter this show (as I have since I've lived in Madison) regardless of this or not.
Thank you, Artful Women! This is such a wonderful surprise!

Picture of flowers, congratulations card and check. "Armless" cat not part of the award, but Persephone wanted to be part of the picture anyway.

And what is it saying on top of your blog in french? This is not a blog?

Thanks, you guys! And yes, I do plan on taking a picture of it soon (I'm such an idiot that I didn't shoot it sooner...I'm just kicking myself).
Yes, it says "this is not a blog." Sort of like Rene Magritte's "this is not a pipe" on a painting of a pipe (after all, it's not a pipe, it's a painting of a pipe).
So is this a painting of a blog? :-D No, it's a journal. :)
I decided "Chameleonify" took a long time to load. So I dumped it.

Congratulations Ann, on some well deserved recognition!! You go girl!! :o) Persephone is beautiful too, btw! =^..^=

Thanks, Maria! And isn't she sweet? It's amazing that she thought to get herself into the picture like that. Usually when you *want* to take a picture of a cat, they're very uncooperative. ;-)
It actually reminds me of a picture my mom took of me when I was about two or so. She had a big bouquet of flowers that my dad had given her, and she photographed me with them, but I was sooooo jealous that she had gotten these beautiful roses and he hadn't gotten me anything (it was either for Valentine's or their anniversary or something), so I was making this really nasty, nose-wrinkling smile into the camera. I think Persephone has a better expression than I did, though.

Congratulation Ann!!! You truly deserve it :)

Persephone is really a fine cat. Am I the only weirdo who thinks cats are sexy animals? ;o]
It's almost impossible to take pictures of cats, they either run away or turn their butt to the camera ;o]
Did Tove have a page called Tove's goldmine or so?

Thanks, Tove!
Nico, yes, cats are sexy animals. If I had to be a mammal, I'd choose to be a cat.

Nico: hehe, yeah that's right, I did have a page named that. How in the w(ide) w(ild) w(orld) do you remember that? Thought I was all alone here in my uppest corner of cyberspace. So you ran into that page once? The goldmine of mostly old webgraphics still excists as a linkware page under my homepage. My page name now is Graphics-cc, that's because my first domain name was graphics.cc.
Ann: I have to say that I respect and love cats most in this world. I've had cats all my life and I don't think I could live without them. Your Persephone is a Princess...

(re: Persephone the Princess)
And she knows it too! :D

I would also be a cat if I had to be an animal, infact I wish I could be 12 hours a day or so ;o]
Tove: Many years ago Ann sold advertising space for 2(?!) dollars or so at the bottom of Ann-S-Thesia (which has changed design I think three times since that) and there was a link to you, you had a yellowish page with a woman on then, the background looked almost fluffy and I think you were one of the first (at least as far I know) who started making those mouseover interfaces, you had one that looked like a radio.

Hey, that's where my cat went!

Lots of congratulations. I thought the armless cat was the best part of the prize, you could take her on tour and make some real money. I don't know about cats being sexy but watching a man with a cat is a surenuff way to find out if he's sexy. I've been seduced more than once by watching a man and his cat. The cat test never fails.
