Apollo
About 9 AM this morning, I discovered Apollo was nowhere to be found. I know he was in the house when I got up earlier because I saw him snuggling by the furnace vent with Caligula. I looked under the bed, in the dog’s kennels, upstairs, under futons, even downstairs. I feared he got outside earlier in the morning when I was either putting out the mail or taking the dogs out. But usually when he gets outside, I’m well aware of it because he makes a big deal about it, mrrooooaaawing and rolling on the sidewalk or under the patio table. Could I have been half asleep and not noticed this? One afternoon in the summer, he got outside as I was coming back inside and I was unaware of it, and Stan saw him waiting bewilderedly by the back door and being scolded by a squirrel as he came home from work.

It’s As If They Knew
Dogs are amazing, sometimes. It’s as if they know things, or know not to do things. Or know even if they’re doing something bad, not to do it bad all the way and to leave some good left in their badness.
Over a month ago, I had that Corneal Specialist appointment (no new news…same old nodule thing as a decade ago). While getting checked in, they set me up for that online mychart thing where you can view (some of) your health information online. I had to then sign up when I got back home. I stuck the info in my purse and forgot about it. I found it a few days ago, and probably put it on the coffee table, thinking I’ll get to signing up for it eventually. Continue reading
Cat and Mouse
Last night Jasper started chasing Apollo through the halls. The way Apollo was acting, I thought maybe he was barfing. Sometimes the dogs chase the cats when they barf in order to, well, you know. Apollo was growling as he ran. I never heard him growl like that before. Jasper chased him up the stairs and he continued growling. It was odd behavior, so I went up the stairs to see what was going on. The door was closed upstairs, fortuantely, otherwise the chase would’ve continued up there to potentially disastrous results. Apollo was at the top of the stairs. His mouth looked odd, like it was dark. Now my eyes aren’t that good, so I couldn’t see it too well and I thought maybe it was open and he was going to barf. He tried to get away from Jasper more, and jumped into the window on the landing. At that point, he was a little more in the light and then I saw what was going on. Continue reading
Hey, Leon!
I was just thinking about Jasper (my Boston) and when it was that he got neutered about a year ago. I looked it up by searching this site on the word “neutered” and found this.
Jasper was neutered on your 50th birthday!
That’s gotta mean something, but I don’t know what.

Dream with Spiral Landscape and Wolf
I was on the high plains of Colorado, a part of the world that belongs to my childhood. I was looking off in the distance at a beautiful limestone shelf, and noticed a cone formation too. I don’t know if there are any cones in that part of the world, but if there are there would be very few. Plenty of limestone shelfs though. I was thinking the cone looked like the one in New Mexico north of white sands. The cone was beautiful and while I watched I noticed a spiral from above it in the sky and then the cone became part of the spiral – then the ground too.

The Evolution of a Pet Word
The newest verb in our house is “Schmoofer.” As in:
“Jasper is schmoofering away somewhere.”
“Jasper schmoofered himself upstairs.”

Dog Intelligence
Yesterday we went to the pet store and got the dogs a toy that was an apple and a worm attached together with a string, except the apple looks more like a bagel/donut, and the worm looks like a fat green sausage that sticks through the hole. Yeah, I know, very sexual, but that’s beside the point.

Again, an even more boring video of Lucifer Sam and Jasper at the Token Creek Dog Park the other day. Warning: This will be boring unless you love watching dogs being dogs.

Sniff The Ball
I’ve been sitting here for over an hour smelling something good. Something sweet, like vanilla. I know it’s not the perfume I’m wearing…I’m wearing a rosey mix I concocted myself. Rose, Palmarosa, Rose Geranium…no, my perfume smells sweet, but not sweet vanilla sweet. What smells so good? I look over and see this green dog ball we bought yesterday. Jasper put it there. Yeah, I know it sounds gross, but I sniff the dog ball. I know what you’re thinking, EEWWWW!!! dog breath! Wrong. The dog ball was what was smelling good. Weird. They must make these things out of scented plastic to make the dogs want to chew it or something. Or maybe it’s made with some anti-doggie breath stink chemicals. I can’t believe I’m sniffing a dog toy.
