Very Odd DREAMS

Dream 1, around 1 am: I was at my parents house, in my former bedroom which is now my mom's room. It was at night and was looking out the window, which was larger and longer. Suddenly, my parents appear in front of the window. They were all white, like they are, so they glowed like ghosts in the night. This scared the shit out of me, so I screamed very loud. My parents were saying something reminderly, redundant and parental, like, "don't forget to put the blah blah blah in the blah blah blah." I can't remember exactly what it was, but it certainly wasn't worth appearing outside the bedroom window to tell me. I could't stop screaming from my fright, and I saw what used to be a former neighbor of theirs across the street appear from her garage. The lights were on in the garage, and I could tell it was Annette. Her dogs, Spitzes, were running around outside. Annette kept staring over toward my parents house to see who was getting murdered.

Dream 2, around 4 am: I had somehow been walking by myself in this reocurring area of dreamland (the part where you walk down an open path and there's a lake or river to the side and the grass gets squishier and muddier and it turns into a pond). But this time, the area was overflowing with water flowing down canals, so much that I had to use some kind of makeshift raft to stay afloat. I was letting the currents of the water take me, and I hoped I would eventually end up somewhere safe where I could get help. The weirdest thing is that the water started to form a wave, pushing me up high on a crest, and then I started to travel backward down the wave to the place I was before. It was very frustrating, but finally I found some sort of outpost where some Land Management government workers were working. There was a woman there, white but tanned, fairly tall, blond, maybe around my age, give or take several years. I tried to talk to her and tell her I had to get out of there and get home, or get to my husband. I told her where Stan was working and who his supervisor was, maybe she knew him and she could help me. Instead, she told me there was nothing they could do for me. I was on my own. I was trying to find dry land, but it was all underwater.

Dream 3, around 7 am: I was in a pet store or someplace and I bought some strange animals that are really hard to describe. They could pull themselves into what was either this outer layer of skin, or a shell, but it looked and felt like a sliced green bean or okra. They were sort of insect-like or lizard-like, and when they would awake, they would release themselves somehow from their shells and they became very long with very long tails. They were sort of colored red and white. I had bought four of them, but one of them didn't seem responsive. Wondering if it was dead, I took it over to an animal clinic by the pet store. Glass separated me from the reception desk. The person working there worked on the little creature. I could see it breathe in its green shell, but it didn't respond much. One of the other creatures sprung to full size and hopped out from behind the window. I caught it, but the person working on the non-responsive one took it and put it behind the glass window so that it wouldn't escape while she continued to resuscitate the other one.

These dreams exhausted me. It was very hard to wake up.

I'd call those nightmares.

These kinds of dreams aren't that unusual for me. I only call them nightmares when I actually wake up screaming.

I don't believe I've ever had a dream where I woke up screaming. Knock on wood! If that ever happened, I'd be shook up the whole following day.

Posted by greenthumb @ 02:01:2006:12:01 PM CST

I've woken up screaming, crying, flailing, kicking. And it does take a while to come out of the dream state and realize it was just a dream. Sometimes it takes hours, like I remember one time I had a dream that Stan had done me wrong somehow and I was suspicious of him all day. I know it's not rational, but the dream leaves you with these powerful feelings.

Posted by Ann @ 02:01:2006:12:05 PM CST

I don't remember many dreams, and even less leave me with that feeling that can linger for hours - either upsetting or euphoric. Probably just a few of those a year. I had no idea that people were so into dreams until I checked a few of the links you had to these dream sites ... that was interesting. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The oldest literature I have ever read is undoubtedly the Bible, and there are lots of references to dreams in that, including people who were executed for failing to correctly interpret dreams. So I guess people have been wondering and interested in their dreams since the beginning of time.

"I've woken up screaming, crying, flailing, kicking." This must be the real reason for the king sized bed! Stan has to get as far away as possible to protect himself! :)

Posted by greenthumb @ 02:01:2006:01:18 PM CST

I kick and flail wide, so even a king size bed offers him little protection. Neither does it offer me little protection from his elbows and snores. As well as certain other...things...of his.

One of the first nights sleeping with him at our first place together (double bed...ugh), I wake up with my lower legs pressed up against his back, and in a foggy dream state, I say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were a chair."

Posted by Ann @ 02:01:2006:01:26 PM CST

This reminds me of a funny little one panel cartoon/joke I saw a long time ago. A husband and wife are getting ready to go to bed and the wife is constructing a barbed wire fence down the middle of the bed, and the husband says, "you must be upset about something."

Barbed wire would take care of everything but the snoring. Of course, you could get a little scratched up ...

Posted by greenthumb @ 02:01:2006:01:39 PM CST

:-D

Barbed wire wouldn't take care of *everything* though.

Let's see, what is impermeable to barbed wire...well, there's sound (snores) and there's...another one of the senses...

(I'm frantically checking the keyboard to see if I can type a clothespin-nose smiley)

(I wonder if he'll hate me if he reads this)

Oh, I just remembered another part of the Dream #1. My parents were also asking me if I could write them a check, kind of like when Stan asks me to write him a check for the mortgage, except it was much more pestering in the way only my dad can manage to be.

"I was suspicious of him all day. I know it's not rational, but the dream leaves you with these powerful feelings."

I have these dreams, too. I hate the way the feeling follows me, too. I'll even kick him and glare at him (lightly, not hard) and tell him what a bad boy he is. Especially if he was with another girl in the dream, lol! The other night I dreamed he was gay. That one just made me laugh all day! I didn't post it on my blog for some reason!

Posted by Dawn @ 02:01:2006:02:00 PM CST

One time my mom had a dream my dad had been married before and hadn't told her. It took her all day to realize it wasn't so.

Posted by Ann @ 02:01:2006:02:09 PM CST

That is so funny! Dreams have such a wierd effect on people. Our brains must be very impressionable!

Posted by Dawn @ 02:01:2006:05:36 PM CST

I think there is always something true in dreams, but we often fail to recognize the hidden meanings.

These are some very intense dreams Ann, and they do make me wonder if something (we aren't aware of yet) is going on with your parents.

Lots of water in these dreams, but you are a water sign - Cancer.
